UNCP to show 'Idol' episode

A staff report

PEMBROKE - A public showing of "American Idol" show is planned Tuesday night at 8 at the James B. Chavis University Center.

Charley Lowry, a native of Robeson County, will appear on the Fox show.

The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke are sponsoring the event.

Free refreshments will be served.

Lowry will compete against seven other contestants, and viewers can vote for their favorite performer.

Two contestants will advance to the next round.

Lowry's rendition of "Proud Mary" earned her a spot among the 117 contestants who made it to Hollywood. She was among the more than 70,000 people nationwide to compete for a spot on the reality show and one of 32 contestants selected to advance.

For information about American Idol or to read Lowry's profile, visit www.idolonfox.com.
