What do you know about Lateral violence.
Hey everybody, I attended a workshop today on lateral violence. Has anybody else heard this term. Essentially the workshop was on how NDNs, Aboriginals, First Nation, Natives are a members of an oppressed collective and consequently, we turn that "feelings of hopelessness" and dispair inward on ourselves. We hate ourselves and turn that anger and hatred into ourselves. It was a good workshop but I disagreed with one statement that we have all felt shame at being an NDN person and this is why we turn it inward. While I don't doubt that there is some truth to what the facilitator said, I don't believe we have all felt this shame or are ashamed at being born the way we were. What do you people think.
