"love feathers" are the yellow or red flicker feathers from the northern red or yellow flicker( yellowhammer woodpecker) that are often tied to a Straight Dancers bandelier . If anyone has something to elaborate or add then please do so. From my understanding they are named so because this bird represent growth and love.

![]() I've never heard of woodpecker or yellowhammer feathers called "Love Feathers". And I never heard of them representing growth and love per se, from my teachings they represent something else and are utilized for a specific purposes. But each to their own I guess ![]() |

Sorry for the confusion, I meant to say Straight dance the first time around. I was just curious because all I have seen for "love feathers" have been yellow or red flicker but in some old photos from the late 1800's , a Comanche elder was wearing some solid color feathers that were not ficker.
