The sash goes way, way back to when battles were fought and there was this group of men who staked themselves down, in the way of the oncoming attackers to let those retreating a little more time. These warriors sacrificed themselves for there families, elders, and children.

The sash is worn for a reason, which I cannot and will not tell here on the internet. And as for the white sheet, it was worn for NAC Summer meetings oppose to the heavy red and blue which was worn during those cold winter nights. But how the white sheet got its use during the gourd dance is the same reason in the summer.....

I agree. Apples and oranges.

The Kiowa 10 bravest sashes went over the shoulder and extended across to the opposite waist. These sashes had nothing to do with the gourd dance.
