Question
I have a question. It has been mentioned before that the Red and Blue Blanket draped around the shoulders had originated from the NAC. Is there an appropriate substitute to wearing the red and blue blanket at a gourd dance?
Thanks |

I've been taught that the blanket isn't a "requirement."

For some reason at this year's Kiowa Gourd Clan Ceremonials, the whipman was making everyone wear their blanket? Some dancers didn't agree with it and put up a fuss. Hmmmmm?

I find that interesting Who, I would have thought if anything the move back to the white "sheet" (shawl?) would be more the thing. To the original question, I've seen plenty of guys not wear a blanket at all, some guys wear a vest, granted, it is usually red and blue. Just curious, are you wanting to shy away from the red and blue, or the blanket itself?

Stream,
Sorry for not being able to post (internet was finicky). I just remembered reading about the white sheet after you posted. I have another question, could one wear a nice blanket in place of the sheet? |

A nephew of mine actually had word's with the whipman about wearing one. But my nephew wanted to dance in order to support the KGC and went to his car to get his.

My dad told me, the white sheet was used mainly in the summer time cause it was cooler than the blanket. Of course NAC utilized the sheet also.
