If you could pick 7 contemporary drums

Well this is similar to the posts on original and southern drums.
As you may know there are reportedly only seven invited drums in each of the three categories at Schemitzun. Here's your chance to pick who you would choose to go.....

All the drums listed are good, but you forgot one important one: Northern Wind. They can hang, they got 4th in contemporary and 3rd overall at 2001 Schemitzun! Sheesh, get it together people & have some respect, they sing their hearts out and sound awesome too! They got my #1 vote and I don't care who else gets in there.
Hey aren't you a little partial?? I think I remember you sayin that your man sang with Northern Wind? Alot of good drums aren't on the list...don't take it so hard.

Have to agree with others that are mentioned, but how about Eya- Hey Nakoda??? How could you forget them?? They paved the way for most of the others mentioned.:p

Mato Winyan......I don't know if people forgot them, they probably just have other choices and fav's.
But I don't think that Eyahey Nakoda paved the way for too many people considering the group name was just started a few years back. The lead singer may have paved the way for singers, but the drum itself is really not that old.

But anyway my choices would have to be (not in any order)

The Boyz
Bear Creek
Northern Cree
Blackstone
Eyabay
Wildhorse

.....that's all I can think of......but hey why not make Black Lodge an honorary host every year......I mean geez they've done it all.

Is that a foot in yer mouth?

Ya no kidding. For all the insight mato has on other threads, There certainly is a lack of knowledge about drums displayed by the mato-ster! I'm sure the Boyz, eyabay, Blackstone etc. would love to hear mato's "paving the way" rant, and actually hear how their drums came to be!

Thats alright though, most of this real pow-wow world is more or less trivial stuff to people like mato.

hey pow-wow wooer?

i see you are a JUNIOR member. if you need to vent against older people who would never put you down, send them a private message and try to get it straight before you show how young and thoughtless you are. she is only being a fan of contemporary singing and she was only only giving her opinion. because of what i did for contemporary music you are able to enjoy the big name group's music as much as i do. i love people, singing at pow-wows, and singing round dances. but never will i put down somebody because they enjoy the music of a good contemporary drum. do you actually know the lead singers of each of those groups. i personally do and am great friends with them. most of the big name groups know me and respect me for i did for pow-wow. some of the groups have said thank you for what i have done for contemporary pow-wow music. my name is rod hunter sr and i hope i can catch your name and become a friend of yours. my e-mail is [email protected].

my fav contemp. groups are:

ta-otha spirit : from big horn rez in alberta canada
black stone
northen cree
black lodge
eyabay
tha boyz
red tail : from lapwai, idaho

I pretty got just one all time fav in contemp, but here's my list of fav. 7 in no particular order....

Blackstone....who else...
Eyabay
The Boyz
Northern Cree
Black Lodge
Bear Creek
Wildhorse

Nothin' too out of the ordinary....these drums in particular know how to make good danceable drumbeats and can blast.....

Hey Rod...good words....more than likely woower's just gonna give you some kind of crazy backlash, but it's good to see those words anyway and let some younger guys see what it's like to truly be a good singer and remain humble....Thanks...

You are absolutely right and I stand corrected. :o The group formed in Sept. of '94. I was thinking of what my friend Rod has done, and since I equate him with Eya-Hey Nakoda, that is how it came out. I knew what I meant but did not word it very well. My bad.:o
