Painted Drums

Sorry for hogging up this board today.

For those of you in drum groups, are any of your drums painted with something on them? If so, why or why not?

no my drum group does not have painted drums, and im not sure if theres any more meaning behind it than this, but i have been told be several drum makers not to do it simply because it will dull the sound of the drum so thats why i dont do it

I have numerous photos of old drum painted half blue and half red with a small yellow stripe down the center. Some of the drums have even got a "skirt" thing going around the drum hanging down. Does any body out there have in info on those type drums?

Uh yeah....we'll begin with Quantum Theory / Planck's Constant and work our way down to Phrenology.

Hmmm--phrenology always left me with a bump on my head. :D

Really? Phrenology...that explains a lot.

For more on the red and blue painted drums check out Thos. Venum book, "The Chippewa Dance Drum"
