5th Annual Navajo Folk Art Festival at Heard Museum North

More than 30 Navajo folk artists will gather to show and sell their innovative artwork in the outdoor courtyards of el Pedregal Festival Marketplace on Saturday and Sunday, February 11 & 12, 2006. Only at the Heard Museum North, this festival offers a unique opportunity to purchase a wide array of folk art including woodcarvings, pottery, mud toys and more directly from Navajo artists. Admission is free.

Folk art is a popular genre in Navajo tradition. Often self-taught with no formal training, folk artists create work that reflects both communal traditions and contemporary ways of life with humor, color and innovation. “This event showcases the unique work of Navajo folk artists, and it’s a popular gathering place for the artists themselves,” says Heard Museum North director Tricia Loscher. “It’s hard not to smile when you see the creativity and talent these artist put into their work.”

Located in North Scottsdale, Heard Museum North is a satellite location of the world famous Heard Museum in downtown Phoenix. It features a changing exhibit gallery of Native American art and the Heard Museum Shop.

WHEN: Saturday and Sunday, February 11 & 12, 2006, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

WHERE: Heard Museum North – Located at el Pedregal Festival Marketplace on the southeast corner of Scottsdale Road and the Carefree Highway, Scottsdale, Ariz.
