Adam Beach: Hurtful Hollywood

"One is Native their entire life. It is a not a costume that we can remove. These are some of the topics that my wife (Summer Tiger) and I speak about on a daily basis. Only a Native knows what it is to be Native, because they have the life experience to show it, in all its nuanced complexities." ~ Adam Beach (Saulteax)

That was a good article.

Reminds me of Lou Diamond Phillips; Filipino guy. First he played a Mexican in La Bamba... Did a good job!

Lately he has played a Cheyenne bar owner in some other show I forget the name of. There was one particular scene I remember that was disrespectful, and never would have been permitted by the Cheyenne people.

I saw a while back on his IMBD profile he describes himself as a mixed blood "Cherokee"

That was unfortunate in my opinion, even if its true. His cousin was one of my teachers in the 6th grade. She said "He's not Mexican! He's Filipino!" LOL

What a great article/interview!

Longmire was the name of that show. Are you talking about the kind of scary, black magic dream scene? At least that's how I would describe it. I think it had spiders in it, too. I ended up being disappointed in that show. It started with such good promise-Native actors playing Native roles-like the rez police, and other characters. Oh well, that's Hollyweird for ya. I don't ever see it changing much. Sad.

No, it was the white sun-dancer scene. Good grief.
