Perspective as we age.

I remember thinking staying up all night was an achievement as a younger man. Now I consider it an achievement if I sleep through the night! lol, how perspectives change.
And I remember thinking my parents where so quaint and slow, as my wife an' I rushed here and there all important and in'a hurry. Babies in tow. Now I'm the one wondering where my kids are going in such a hurry, babies in tow. And my wife's telling me we where that way once, lol!
And as to the driving slow I've driven slow since my early twenties, now I just know why!

Seriously, age is a state of mind.

My Grandma Peppy always said you're only as old as you feel. She stayed young until she died when she was in her mid- late-90's.

My gran for her 90th birthday wanted a gel seat for her snowmobile.. said the factory one was too hard on her butt. I would have bought her a new snowmobile if she'd asked... I loved that she quit working full time when she was 87 and went part time...lol She was still bagging her moose, elk and caribou right up until she was 95. She'd go out on her own, shoot, field butcher the animal and drag it back on her snowmobile's sled.

When she was 95, she went to the Dominican Republic and slipped getting off the plane and broke her arm. The airline wanted to take her to a hospital there and she was , "Nope. Put me back on a plane, I'll get it set back home." She got back on the a returning plane,, got her arm set and left again for her holiday. I have pictures of her dancing with some young and lovely 25 year old guy...cast and all...lol

I always said that if I had to take someone with me to a desert island, it would be her. She'd have me weaving a raft out of leg hair to get off the island but she'd get us off...lol

i sure hope that isnt the case...cos ever since i had that bad fall in 2002, i have felt like i am 90 years old. my brain keeps telling me im some where between 17 & 46. i still love to chew my daily quota of bubble gum, blowing bubbles n all. i also know that i am wise enough to be the adult i am. **laughin** i still go out and dance under the moonlight, in the wind, or when it snows when i feel like it. my views on life are as young as a pre-teen with the wisdom of the 46 year old.

Well, she didn't necessarily mean just physically.

Grandma was blessed with incredible physical health. But she also stayed young mentally until the end.

I remember once when I was a kid, and I'd seen something about "The Roaring 20's" on TV. It occurred to me that Grandma would've been a young woman at that time. So I asked my Dad if Grandma had been a flapper in the 20's. My Dad's answer:

Well...if anyone flapped, your grandmother did!

She was having fun and looking for her next boyfriend until the end.

She was a city girl, so she wasn't going out and bagging moose. But she was doing all her yardwork, mowing the lawn (push mower), going out dancing, flirting with the men...

The trouble is when you have an older generation that remained active up until the end.. they are a hard act to follow... LOL I told my husband there is no way I am working until I'm in my 90s...I've seen too many doddery senior partners who can't remember where they left their teeth let alone where they left their clients..lol

Now that most Canadian provinces have done away with mandatory retirement ages, I do see people working longer because they want to or need to work. As it stands now, the military doesn't make you leave until 60... by the time I get near there, the age will probably be closer to 70...lol I suspect 70 will be the new 40 by then...lol

I remember as a teenager thinking people in their fifties were really old....now that I'm in my fifties....it's not that old! The worst part of getting old was when my 16 year old son told me that I should color my hair because I look older than my older sister....he just doesn't want his Mom looking old! I had him when I was 37 and none of his friends have parents with gray hair! I'm just too lazy to go get my hair colored all the time, when I did it before two weeks later the gray roots were popping back out so I decided they wanted to stay!
