I don't think I ever had/wore anything studded.

There was a time I wore a choke chain, though!

Of course, there were always bell bottoms (esp. with the cut-out/inserts that made the bells bigger).

I didn't have any quite like this, but ya get the picture.

(And for y'all youngsters, back in the day men and women dressed like that!)

I remember in 1st grade having a "Sock It To Me" medallion (remember Laugh In, anyone?)

OMG, my dog wears one like that...lol Except hers is pink...

My mother used to wear jeans called Elephant pants... the idea was the botom was to completely cover any shoe/foot from showing and the legs were wide and straight down. She wore them with a Nehru jacket and jewellery from India. She vetoed the turquoise jewellery... LOL

She also said, she was way more original because she wore blue tinted glasses long before Johnny Depp made them cool.

Yeah, I still have it in the closet somewhere. I still remember the day I bought it. Shoulda seen the clerk's face when he asked if I needed a sack for my purchase, and I said no thanks, I'll just wear it!

I used to know all those disco dances.

I remember being at the Prom and bustin' out my best John Travolta/Saturday Night Fever moves! (No, I didn't have a white suit.)

++++++++++++++++

But it was my middle brother who had the Jewfro, not me!

I didn't have flames embroidered on my clothes like Disco Stu, though.

That look was reserved for my Aunt Mary, who sang lounge country in some of your "better dives" in St. Louis!

I'll never forget her sparkly hair!

Things I used to love that, now, make me feel old:

1. Women in sundresses with combat boots.
2. Leather-sleeved Lettermen jackets with the sleeves pushed up.
3. Baggy jeans peg-rolled into cuffs at the bottom.
4. Scrunchies.
5. Fancy Dancers that didn't spin.
6. Pabst.
7. Women under 30 making eye contact with me.
8. Not being cynical.
9. Pre Hagar Van Halen.
10. Not having to work.

Back when I was a kid, I never understood why my G-Aunt & G-Uncle had separate beds - same bedroom, just separate beds.

Now that I'm (alot) older, I understand. Separate beds are good. Separate bedrooms are better. Separate households are the ideal! (See the Sleep Apnea and Snoring threads for one of the main reasons!)

The clothes I thought were cool as a child in the 70's were/are hideous. I've had the terrifying experience of seeing a dress I used to wear in a movie. The long dress one of the Lovell kids was wearing in Apollo 13 is hanging in a closet at my folk's. I used to think that dress was so wonderful. Gak!

When I was a kid, I got to pick drapes and a bedspread for my room in 1979. Now the watch phrase in our house was "if you take care of it, it will last forever." My mother is also astonishingly fashion indifferent (which probably explains much about my wardrobe). If she liked the look in '79, it is still good today. So visitors to my parent's home get to bed down in the faux country patchwork prints that were all the rage back in the day. I always feel like I fell into an old Sears catalog when I go home. And the dang sheets and spread are made of such an indestructible grade of polyester blend, they are still are good as ever. I imagine myself having to dissolve those sheets in a vat of chloroform after my folks die.
