Apache Tactics and Warfare

Heads up!

On the History Channel tonight, Friday, November 19 @ 9pm ET/PT.

For over 300 years, the North American Apache tribes were remarkably successful, beating opponents who were wealthier, better armed, and apparently more organized. Apache warriors gained an unrivalled reputation as fighters. In this hour, historians explore two important battles to try and uncover the secrets of their success. Archaeologists and forensic scientists investigate and compare the weapons used by the Apache and their last enemy--the U.S. Army. A military geologist unpicks clues to Apache use of the landscape itself to help defeat outsiders. And at the sites of the Battle of Cieneguilla (1854) and Hembrillo (1880), remote locations in New Mexico, we uncover tantalizing clues. But how did the Army eventually overpower the Apache? Battlefield Detectives reveals the answer

This same show used forensic science to prove that there was no last stand in Custer's Last Stand, so I figure it might be interesting enough. Be curious to see what anyone might have to say about it.

[QUOTE=sookout sh'nob]Heads up!

On the History Channel tonight, Friday, November 19 @ 9pm ET/PT.

Thanks for the heads up...sookout sh'nob...I did watch this, and did enjoy it...The Apache warfare techniques, and courage and bravery are amongst the finest examples in human history. Sad that their losses were to a large part due to the Army's usage of other Apaches...and NDNs as scouts, and then also using African Americans as soldiers. The very second peace was secured, the scouts reverted to being just another damned indian, and gained nothing for their treachery, but the same abuse heaped on the 'hostiles'. I also doubt that the black soldiers fared all that well in the society of the day. The government's usage of any and all to get its way, then abandoning them is WAY too typical throughout history.
But overall, a great program, thanks again for pointing it out..

i once read that they used to go after the wagons crossing the desert and spill the anglos water supply leaving them to cross desert with no water

i woulda led them up ravines chasing decoys than raining rocks on their heads!!!!!.... BIG ROCKS

they may have been one of the most succesful warrior culture in US.....but in he end none of the tribes were succesful

there is also captain jack, pope' and others......but most people only know about crazy horse, chief joseph and geronimo

the apache were fighting a 2 fronted war......settlers/ us army AND the mexican army at the same time

mexico also had a history of bloodshed in sw united states
