Car Insurance

Got my car insurance bill for this coming year. $3900. 2 cars.
They messed up my address and billed me for my previous address which was a different county. When they fixed it it was only about $100 less.

We decided to shop for different (cheaper) insurance online and all the quotes for all the other major companies were half!

Liberty Mutual itself quoted us $1000 less online than what they are charging us!!!

Their reasoning was that it is a quote for a new customer so they get a deal.

My question back was that how does a NEW CUSTOMER with no history get a $1000 deal when the current customer whose family has been a customer for 35 years gets to pay more? Shoot we paid them thousands of dollars over 35years. I paid nearly $30,000 in the past 17 years and only used $1,500 in claims!! They even made me use the "F" word!!!

I ended up getting a $500 deal becuase i biatched so much and let them know that I was on to their game. It is still better since I dont have to worry about being dropped if something happens. Thats the way things work for me, if I get a deal or make extra money something happens and the money goes away. That is why i dont do OT at work, whenever I do and get some extra cash, something happens. Maybe Im superstitious but thats how it ALWAYS happens. Some call it karma.

Hows your insurance?

I pay 600 a year for one truck, full coverage, 1000 deductible. Or that is what I was paying. I got my quote for the new year and it went up 300 clams! I was like WTF??? I guess I got a speeding ticket in 2004 (going 40 in a 35, small town country folks!!!) and it was just now reported! So I'm thinking of looking elsewhere, just for a 6 mo policy and go from there. I was really disappointed in my insurance company that I have been with since 1995 (since I started driving...LOL) so now I'm looking for someone different.

Boozhoo niji,

This will make your teeth grind.

I got an increase in my insurance bill, with no speeding tickets or changes in vehicle, the increase was $50 semiannualy. So I started doing my own research, not to change my company, but to find out why they raised my rates.

It turns out, the insurance companies hire other companies to research risk factors in their customers driving habits. These factors include, how far you drive to work, single or married, kids or not, even whether or not you have a mortgage. Dont ask me what that has to do with how bad a driver you are, but the insurance companies think so.

So long story short, adding 20 miles a day to my commute (when I changed jobs) costs me an extra $100 a year.

Watch out... big brother is watching you.

They ran a credit check also. They say it is to make sure I can pay my premium.

So if you have bad credit in NJ, you cant get insurance so you cant drive, so you cant work, so you collect welfare, so you live in the slums, so you turn to drugsand robbery, so end up dead or in jail.

They run credit checks in Virginia also. Because my coworkers went up because of her credit.

The cost of insurance is one reason I got rid of both my cars. DC area car insurance is crazy high (probably because people all drive like they are playing bumper cars here). I had never had an accident in 35 years of driving, one speeding ticket -decades- ago and I was paying somethin' in the neighborhood of 200/ month. In VA Beach (about 5-6 hours south of here) my coverage cost half that.

Mass transit works for now. I'll get new wheels when I move outta here. Makes it rough to get to powwows, but the cars wouldn't have helped with that either. I was limited to going to places with drive-throughs when I sold them, so it made sense all the way around.

Speaking of car expenses - anyone else catch the news piece on air powered cars over the past weekend? Sounds promising and I can afford air *grin*
