Did you know?
I just read a story on the National Libertarian Party web
page which said that U.S. citizens are still paying a 107
year-old tax on telephones, of all things, to help pay
for the Spanish-American War. Now, I got an A in American
History in college, so you can trust me when I tell you
that the Spanish-American War is over.
Not only has the tax never been repealed (it has been tried
a few times...never with any success), but some members of
Congress even want to expand it. Congress' Joint Committee
on Taxation issued an opinion in January, saying that the
tax could be expanded to apply to wireless Internet and data
So, okay, let's cut funding to the United Nations and then
maybe we can stop paying for the Spanish-American War
10% Lil Devil
But I've been told it's the other way around!
