Unhappy Graduation

With Graduation right around the corner, I saw something newly displayed at my learning center. Graduates have the option of purchasing graduation sashes. They come in three types: Ethnic (African American or Latino), Patrotic (sp?), and traditional (school colors). Wanting one that would represent my Native American background, I tried searching for some type of native themed sash. This is what I found....

If you have any ideas of something better, please post!!!

I don't like the way those look close-up. I would bead an eagle feather or something. Can you where regalia? One native gal here wore a new moose-skin dress to receive her master's degree here last week, it was beautiful.

I think it's a good idea, I'd buy it if I was graduating..........or make your own. Cheaper than $36.00.

Don't you hate it when May rolls around, everyone starts graduating and it's like Christmas all over again, you have to get dressed up, attend banquets, and buy gifts?? Maybe it's just me, it's a good cause, but man........it gets stressful.

Thank you all! I like that website. You'll see similar fabric down here, but not the selection ofnativefabric.com. I'm also debating on getting just a "plain" sash (in some solid color) and appliquing it with design, and then take it to a embrodery shop to have "Class of 2005" put on.

I was just in shock as how ugly the "native american themed sash" was...the feathers looked like chicken...oh wait, that's an insult to chickens!

Ok..Back in the day, when I didn't know my family's background and I thought I was actually totally white, eagle feathers were bought in any craft store (since they looked really good with their dipped tips) and couldn't explain these wierd dreams and....

just kidding!

Congratulations!

ok - I got an idea for you.... and you can modify it in whatever way you want... I wore my ribbon dress under my academic robe...and my mocs... I carried my feathers, wore a beaded barrette in my hair and draped my roboza over my arm like a shawl.... I had a PTK stole already and was wearing gold honor cords and PTK cords (2nd time) and multicultural cords.... for me a native stole would probably have been too much.... I did wear my beaded regalia stole under the adacemic robe too...

I have some pics on this page...
http://www.refinerofgold.com/eileen.htm

some gals choose to wear complete native regalia - check with school guidelines and ask for their approval on that sort of thing...

I kinda thought they looked sharp except for the feathers on the end.. those were just cheesy... you know though... it would be cool to see one of those done in fingerweaving!

I think they do look nice too.... and I'd probably do something different with the feathers maybe?? ...

hmmm... JinglinBooty - "... graduation sashes ... " -
I believe they are called 'stoles' in academia... at least that's what the PTK one was called... in full regalia, I wear my roboza like a 'sash' ... that's wrapped around me and draped over one shoulder - military- and Scottish-style...

That BEGs and MOTS graduated with a Masters in Snaggin. They can go to a powwow and in one deft move capture 3 snags without even breaking into a sweat. Dude, they's magic.

Yeah - it's a matter of choice in what they want to call them...

Anyway I don't see why you can't wear one if you want, especially since it sounds like they are encouraging multicultural diversity by offering the others....

The important part is that you really like what you finally choose to go with ~ whether you purchase one, make it yourself, or have a really talented friend or family member help you with making one....

I'd like to see pics when you do make up your mind
You will post some, won't you???
