I don't feel much like liking today. I don't even Like my own LIKE button. I'm so bluesy that the Like button has no appeal whatsoever right now!

BORING Sunday. Very boring Sunday. LIKE how about something to do? I might actually have to bring out my sewing and beadwork to jazz this place up.

We could show you how...

But you might like another NDN craft like TWINING. We don't have a twining group. Perhaps we need one.

It is an older NDN craft. It is a form of twisting fiber (wool) in a free form of weaving. You don't use a loom. I twine all the time...here is a lovely bag that is from a museum:

If you have enough manual dexterity to crochet, you can do this. I plan to do a tutorial to show how, but I'm not sure I will put it here. Will let you know.

Now the maker of that bag was an expert of many years. However, people who learn this can produce work just as expert with just a little practice. It is relaxing, and when I have problems with my eyes, I can still twine even when I can't bead. When my arthritis is too bad to bead, I can still twine. It's fun.

Youtube might be a better place because then you can watch how it is done. It's an easy motion, but it is difficult to do it in stills. So that's why I'm thinking that that would be a better place.

If you can crochet and do cross stitch, you can easily do this. It is NOT difficult in the least. It's just difficult to show in stills...and that's why I think it is nearly a lost art. Skills that you can put into books are easy to preserve.

Skills that are passed from artist to artist are less likely to be preserved. I think that Youtube would be a good place to put it. When I get it finished, I will be sure to send you a link to it.

I made this bag last year. I think I posted it somewhere on powwows here already, but in case you missed it, I happen to have this one in my picture files on my computer.

The nice thing about this particular bag is that it includes ALL the known stitches in weft twining. It's got false embroidery, true embroidery, half twist, complete twist, warp wrapping and some others.

Anyway, the 4 buffalo on the bag are all different and have texture LIKE a buffalo would. The brown fiber used on the buffalo is spun buffalo hair, and the wool used is unraveled wool that I had respun and the warps (the horizontal elements) are made of Indian Hemp.

However, you can use commercial hemp for the warps and skein wool yarn for the wefts. I just was able to use traditional materials and wanted to see what that would look LIKE. I still process Indian Hemp for my wefts, but it's just my personal preference.

If you LIKE to crochet, you will LIKE to twine. It is an ancient form of making fabric. It requires little to no additional tools other than the materials you use to make it.

BUT, I have tried to make a tutorial with stills, and it is confusing....even while the action to do it is simple! So I think I will put it on youtube so that it is easier to see.

Here's the bag I did last year. Probably some have already seen it when I posted it back then.

That is LIKE really cool! It kinda looks like needlepoint...this is done how? How do you do all the different ways? Is it anything like braiding? I so want to learn how to do it...
