Lucie Idlout
:rocking: Lucie Idlout
I just checked her out................I like her....... Here is the info:
One of the most powerful voices to rise from the birth of the new territory of Nunavut is Inuk singer / songwriter, Lucie Idlout. Her voice at times echoes the crooning of the likes of Etta James, and then with seemingly equal ease, delivers the awesome power of alternative alumni Marianne Faithful & P.J. Harvey. Lucie’s raw, commanding style is not intended for the lighthearted. She takes you on an emotional journey through life drawing on themes that are common to us all; heartbreak, one night stands, loss, tenderness and occasionally a little rage. Her fearless insights as well as her songs’ compelling social relevance have made her debut CD "E5770; My Mothers Name" an incredibly gripping work. Lucie’s ability to create tales of conflict while still retaining a benevolent eye has made her a favourite amongst the festival circuit. She has toured extensively through Canada, Europe and the United States garnering rave revues wherever she travels. Lucie Idlout’s debut Arbor Records release titled “E5-770; My Mother's Name”, is a collection of vivid musical “paintings”. Every song stands on it’s own as a piece of finely crafted art - sometimes beautiful, sometimes painful but always truthful!
If ya want to listen check her out! I really liked.........
I(I will rise for you)

:band: SLANGBLOSSOM!!!!!!!!!!
Another Arbor's Juno Award Winner.......... I like them.........
Here is the info:
Slangblossom is Arbor Record’s freshest new Hip Hop group. Not limited to the standard DJ and emcee format, each member of Slangblossom can produce and play various instruments. Featuring Hip Hop artists Daybi, P–nut, Wab and DJ Yann Solo, the group melds their talents to explore and push the direction of their creations. These boys from central Canada have put together a killer collection of songs that are dark and melancholy in nature. It explores the harder edge that seems to exist in today's disenfranchised youth.
Visit Slangblossom at www.slangblossom.com to view their awesome homepage. Their site includes an online store as well as previews of their two upcoming 2004 video releases titled “Possibly” & “The Hate”.
I liked "Possibly" & "The Hate"
to hear them check it out........

:Music: DEREK MILLER!!!!!!!!!
Luv......him..........luv him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
check him out.........
Singer/Songwriter, Derek Miller, was born and raised on the Six Nations Reserve in Ontario. His upcoming release, Music is the Medicine, is a perfect amalgamation of influences culled throughout his 14 years of performing. Blues based rock inspired by the likes of Link Wray, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and Hank Williams Sr. is how his music is best described. Derek’s live performances strike a contrast between the dark, soul searching messages in his music and his light hearted enthusiasm and vitality. Derek performs his music with an air of feeling totally comfortable on stage… like he was born explicitly to write, sing and play. Having performed at showcases, the occasional opening act solo slot and many shows in his own right, Derek has been brought to the attention of veteran and well respected musicians, such as Daniel Lanois, Robbie Robertson and Buffy Ste. Marie. He opened for Buffy on a series of theatre concerts where he wowed crowds with songs from his debut five song EP CD entitled Sketches. In 1999, this EP won him a Canadian Aboriginal Music Award for Best Male Artist. During the same year, Derek moved to Arizona where he co-produced the Keith Secola and the Wild Band of Indians "Fingermonkey" release. This inadvertently won a Native American Music Award in 2000 for Best Independent Album. In the Fall of 2002, Music is the Medicine a colaboration with Juno Award Winning Producer Brandon Friesen will be released on Grammy Award Winning label Soar Records in the United States and Arbor Records in Canada. Music Is The Medicine has already won "Aboriginal Recording of the Year" at this years Juno Awards and the "Outstanding Music Achievement Award" from the First American In The Arts! Derek continues to tour in support of his new releases throughout Canada, USA. & Europe.

Just heard a sample of them and I love it!!!!!!
Here is their info:
As a new dawn rises, an eagle takes to the sky, spreading his wings over a timeless land, a place of ceremony and sacred mystery. A warrior is born... one who will lead his people down a path that will find them a battle with their ancient enemy, one that will determine their past, their future, and their honor.
“Longhouse, A Warrior’s Journey” is an ecclectic mix of Native American traditional singing with flute and soundscape music that will take you on a mystical ancient journey.

The songs
01. Medicine Woman
02. Voices of the Dawn
03. A Warrior Is Born
04. Mountain Journey
05. The Passage
06. Grandfather’s Teaching
07. Maiden Vision
08. Dine’ tah (Homeland)
09. Anasazi
10. Leader of Warriors
11. Ceremony
12. Besgoshi Retreat

My son will raise his arms and wave/twist his hands when he hears that song. WHY? we dunno!! *L*

Indigenous97 03-05-2004 05:21 PM

That's soooo cute!
:3d: Dazzle_me_now - Your son sounds soooooooooooo cute and it's nice to see him getting into a song like! That song is AWESOME!!!!!!!!! Very powerful message!!!!

Dancin by the bay :) - I agree with "Dazzle me now", it was probably "Where is the love". You can check out their website and listen to the samples. Go to the Audio/Video and check out the video!!!!!!!!!!!! However, it could be "Let's Get Retarded" too?

What's wrong with the world, mama
People livin' like they ain't got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that'll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin'
In the USA, the big CIA
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you're bound to get irate, yeah
Badness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
Nigga, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y'all, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

It just ain't the same, always unchanged
New days are strange, is the world insane
If love and peace is so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don't belong
Nations droppin' bombs
Chemical gasses fillin' lungs of little ones
With the ongoin' sufferin' as the youth die young
So ask yourself is the lovin' really gone
So I could ask myself really what is goin' wrong
In this world that we livin' in people keep on givin'
Makin' wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
Not respectin' each other, deny thy brother
A war is goin' on but the reason's undercover
The truth is kept secret, it's swept under the rug
If you never know truth then you never know love
Where's the love, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the truth, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the love, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I'm gettin' older, y'all, people gets colder
Most of us only care about money makin'
Selfishness got us followin' in the wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting the young minds faster than bacteria
Kids wanna act like what they see in the cinema
Yo', whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness in equality
Instead in spreading love we spreading animosity
Lack of understanding, leading lives away from unity
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' under
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' down
There's no wonder why sometimes I'm feelin' under
Gotta keep my faith alive till love is found

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
