Nationwide gas prices set another record

NEW YORK (AP) The retail price of gasoline soared more than 18 cents last week to an average $2.55 a gallon nationwide, a new record, the Energy Department reported Monday.
The previous record high was $2.37 per gallon, established the previous week. Adjusting for inflation, retail gasoline prices peaked above $3 a gallon in 1981.

The latest weekly government survey said the average price nationwide of regular-grade gasoline rose by 18.2 cents to $2.55 per gallon, or 67.5 cents a gallon higher than the same time a year ago.

Pump prices were highest on the West Coast, averaging $2.669 a gallon, and cheapest in the Rocky Mountain region, where motorists paid on average $2.44 a gallon. In the Midwest, gas averaged $2.531 per gallon.

Help Me!

Hey,
I am about to turn 16, and I will start paying for my own things(for those of you whom know my real background). Why is gas prices going up? I honestly cannot figure it out. I mean, we have Alaska, Iraq, part of Iran, and Part of Afghanistan. Why is it that oil is so expensive? Did I miss something? Please help me, because, I have decided to ride my bike to school starting my 16 b-day.
Thanks
mike tedder

I got an email telling me gas prices today by my apt. in IL went to 2.69 per gallon. I think I'm gonna need a better paying job soon. I thought 1.75 was bad! Agallon of gas is almost as expensive as a pack of smokes! Yikes!

Hi
The price of Gasoline in town 2.55 for gallon.

wyo_rose 08-16-2005 10:33 AM

Ours went over $2.50 a gallon too. I wished I lived in Southern Wyo along I-80 where the news has Cheyenne cheapest at $2.31 and another network has Evanston cheapest at $2.12.

My bfen just got a job an hour and a half away. It might be cheaper to move over there than to pay for gas back and forth. :(

While gas prices are up, corn prices are down. Why not try brewing your fuel? Since moonshine is almost pure alcohol, it has high octane and runs clean.

How do I know this? Guess how some members of my family supported themselves.

The current price in Fairbanks, Alaska is $2.539. It will only go higher!

Same old news, we should be use to it by now. I thought leaving Cali was going to help me out, but it followed me. We pay $2.65 here. Glad it's not $3.00 yet. That's when I start complaining.

yooperbear 08-20-2005 09:25 AM

Prices in upper Michigan range from 2.69 to 2.79 a gallon. We should all be complaining NOW!

Azhe'ni 08-20-2005 11:02 AM

$2.69 here in Northern Indiana. I know it was high in Sault Ste. Marie cause I was up there and it took almost $70 to fill up the truck. It was like $2.87.

Gas Prices

This whole topic pisses me off!

We are being price gouged big time! We are being charged these ungodly prices on oil that is already in the pipelines and has been for months. I expect that these prices will continue as long as the current white house is in office.

"Hello" the Bush administration, including President Bushs' friends and family are all heavily invested in oil and gas companies here and abroad. He is making sure that when he is no longer in office he can call on a few favors from the people whose pockets he is currently lining and you remember the prices you are currently paying the next time you vote in a presidential election.

In fact, 3 months prior and leading up to the last presidential election, gas prices on average nationally were only 1.65 per gallon.

I'm in the phoenix area and it is 2.65 for low grade and 2.95 for the goot stuff.

I hope people are finally taking notice of how devastating this current administration has been for the US! I've noticed that people who normally don't pay attention to politics are starting too, and I understand that this is making the White House very nervous!

White Powwow Dancer 08-20-2005 10:01 PM

Hi
Update the gas prices has gone up to 2.59 a gallon 2.69 for the good stuff. Thats ****s here we have a oil refinery in our city and we are paying ungody prices too.
Time to dump the white house too!!

DANCINGEAGLE 08-20-2005 11:31 PM

The gas prices around here are averaging between $2.59 and $2.69 a gallon. One gas station down the street from us rose their gas prices twice in one day. It is getting really rediculous.

I put $20.00 in the tank today and the car just laughed at me. My car asked me was I really serious.

andre 08-21-2005 12:47 AM

We were up to $2.799 at some of the real expensive stations... I saw the strangest thing on the way home tonight though, $2.499. I bet it lasts just long enough for me to get down to 3/4 a tank and decide to get 4 or 5 gallons. Then it'll be up again.

ac_miss 08-21-2005 03:18 PM

The state average for gas in Texas is at $2.50 /gallon. It's worrying alot of our tribal members who have jobs off the reservation. It'll be worrisome for me because I will commute an hour each way to an from school. I signed up for 2 internet classes, but the Education Dept. here is saying that I wll have to pay for my own internet courses. It's gonna suck because it'll save me time and gas than to commute to campus. Oh well...

I'm glad I have a small car rather than a SUV. I hear sales on SUVs have dropped considerably in the past few weeks.

andre 08-21-2005 03:37 PM

I know your pain AC_Miss, I have a 1 hr 15 minute commute each way right now. Several of us carpool, but it is still limiting our fundage considerably.
