Thats a good one. I went last year...but I won't make it this year. Shoot I won't make it to a powwow until May. (Comanche Little Ponies celebration in Lawton, May 6-8) (Kiowa Gourd Clan benefit May 7)
Lots of stuff happening this month and next. Hey Shyann, on the powwows.com powwow calendar, there are a bunch listed. I got my calendar set for the year. Well...keep on, keepin it real!!!

Lightbulb Dosha' Oklahoma !!

Allow me to introduce myself. I'm new to this site and to the south. I'm a North Dakota Native living in Colorado, have been for awhile now. Anyways, I know when all the pow wows are going on in Montana, North Dakota and Minnesota. At least the ones we used to frequent. And, I know the dates of all the big southern dances are. Denver March(did that), The Gathering(scheduled), United Tribes(ohh wait thatz Northern Style). But for reals I would like to know of some good contest dances in Oklahoma, Colorado(this side of the Rockies) that could be recommended.

Hello all comanches I had a question to ask. I was wanting to know how much quanity you needed to be on the comanche roll? My father is comanche but I have no contact with him or his family so I don't know anything about my comanche background.

White Shield, Stroud is always a good one to go too. And, you probably know about Red Earth. All the Pow-Wow's in Oklahoma are really good to go to, the prize money isn't always very much. Ponca Pow-Wow has always been one of my favorite's. Men's Fancy is really good at Ponca. While the pow-wow is going on, the MC will keep announcing added prize money that different family's have donated. Which usually builds into the thousands. First place starts at a thousand. All the finalist's solo. Good music at Ponca. Hope this helps. AH-HO!

Thanks! wa-zha-zhe

Yep we have Red Earth scheduled. Friends/dancers coming down from ND also.
May I ask for the dates for Stoud and Ponca. Then I'll have to check my rotating work schedule.
Blessings to You.

Shyannmason,
Currently the blood quantum to be enrolled on the Comanche rolls is 1/8th. If your father is enrolled, and he is 1/4 or more, then you should be able to get enrolled. Hope this helps....Numunu1971
p.s. I highly suggest you get to know your Comanche background. Our history, traditions and beliefs are strong and beautiful.

I would really like to know my background on my comanche side. I feel like I was deprived of my comanche history and ways of life. But I know none of my family members well enough to ask questions and my grandparents never even asked to see me and my brother so I don't think that they would like us to contact them. I also read that there are differnt comanche clans, is this true?

If you are already enrolled with another tribe the only way that you can get enrolled with the Comanches is if you have NEVER received any kind of monetary benefits from that tribe. I think that is the way with most tribes.

I wish that we were getting a percap but there are too many of us for that to happen. Anyway it is better for all tribal members that the money is reinvested into the tribe for expansions and jobs.

Who are your folks, Shyannmason?

As far as the different clans go... there were different "bands" years ago. But as the government continued to take our land...we got squeezed together like a bunch Kiowas (Aye!)

Now, instead of having bands with names like Peneteka, Quohadi, etc...we have bands with names like...The Cache bunch, The Lawton bunch, The Walters bunch, The OKC bunch, the ... Well You get the idea.

What BlackJack Daisy said is true if you've been enrolled with another tribe..but I had the impression that you hadn't been enrolled with ANY tribe.

Hey BlackJack Daisy,
As far as the per cap goes...it could be coming. I'm like you though, I'd rather they just put it back into those programs..like the elder payment, language preservation..etc.

Was that the Taco Man talking back there? Whats happening Taco49?

I went to OSU/s powwow this past weekend. It was pretty good.

There was a drum contest with 7 drums competing. Joe Fish had help from Yellowhammer and Southern Thunder singers. The singing at the center drum was good.

Thats right Taco, I'm part of the Ponca City bunch...you'd be surprised how many of us are up here. LOL. We're definitely a minority. Our baby is doing great. Shes 7 months old now, and got be hopping all over the place. Shes my boss.
I hated missing Stillwater myself. Especially since I'm only 45 minutes north of there. Dang.... I hate working weekends. Now I'm off this weekend and everybodys going to Albuquerque. There something going on in Wichita Falls Tx...and I think Tahlequah.... Oh well, guess I'll just stay home and enjoy the ambiance of Ponca City Ok. LOL...Chris

Thumbs up Good Dance!!

We went to Stillwater last week and had a great time. It was a good dance all around- drums and singers were unbelievable!! Chris danced but didn't compete. There was a great feed for all who were there and the comraderie among all was good!! Got to visit with Osage Sooner a little bit too and heard about some upcoming dances that we are going to try to go to. Anyone make the dance at White Eagle the next afternoon and evening? WhoMe we just keep missing each other, lol! I'm gonna be like Numunu and wear me a PowWows.com tshirt with our handle on it next time!!! LOL

Question Blood Quantum

My Dad was adopted as an infant from a choctaw family, My mom is 1/2 ndn & 1/2 german *yikes* anyway we did not know who my father's parents were until "92" when the death of his adoptive parents allowed him to open adoption records. What does this mean that my son and I are? No joking, just want to know.

So what are you doing this weekend?

Hey Okies!
So what are you doing this weekend? I told my wife that I wanted to go to Comanche Little Ponies Powwow, and she said, "So, what your trying to say is that you want to take me to a powwow for Mothers day?" And I said, "Well, ...... Yeah!"
So, we're going. How about ya'll? Taking your Mom's to Furr's Cafeteria? LOL. Lots of happenin's this weekend. That Jacobson house thing is happening in Norman. OKC dance club is having a benefit, as is Kiowa Gourd Clan. KC Quapaw told me that there is a happenin' in Sapulpa. Anything else going on ????? Have a good weekend!!!
