I recently watched a documentary about a hallucinogenic substance called DMT, taken by ingesting a solution made of the ayahuasca plant of South America. People were describing their experiences when given DMT by IV in a hospital, blindfolded.

Each participant tried to describe their experience. Geometric shapes and colors, feeling. Many said they felt that they left their bodies and entered another realm. Some saw it as extraterrestrial, some as spiritual. Many felt their eyes were permanently opened to a broader vision of life or a deeper truth.

It seemed a little funny to me that these people had to take this chemical and go through this in a hospital to see what has always been there, what indigenous people all around the world, have always known. That the boundaries between one life form and another are more creations of culture, perhaps our fears more than hopes at times, than figments of reality. And its sad that many never experience the joy of connectedness with the natural world, or even a family member or friend. The barriers to this are of our own creation for when we judge we cannot perceive.

In Meyers-Briggs Personality tests, prized by many corporations and government agencies to pick top employees for promotion, intuitive and feeling people are described as highly intelligent, excellent leaders and extremely capable. Yet due to Western culture, they are becoming few and far between. Ancient cultures understood the importance of perception as the pathway to intelligence and enlightenment.

Chap 2

Darwin lied. The banner was generated on dot matrix paper from the school’s mainframe just before it was retired. The letters were composed of a combination of punctuation, mathematical, and other symbols. It hung on the classroom wall with scotch tape.
“We continue to be amazed by the accomplishments of ancient civilizations…” A monitor displayed various images from the great pyramids to stonehenge to the stone figures at Easter Island. “Using ropes, logs, and other primitive tools, the sheer brute force of ancient man created these enduring monuments…”
The instructor turned the monitor off. “Okay, we’ve been studying this megalithic architecture for some time now, now I want to hear from you. What do you think? Cleverness and brute force? Advanced technology? Aliens?” The instructor smiled and some students snickered. Several raised their hands. The instructor pointed to a freckled face boy in the front of the class. “Johnny.”
“I think ancient people made these buildings with simple machines, like levers, pulleys, and log rollers. There have been several scientific experiments that showed it could be done like that.”

@muskrat_skull, a post is a post, whether it is one letter or a whole paragraph.
