It's not about funding. We as a country are getting to a point where funding will start being cut. we're not protected just because we're native. which is why all tribes who are making a buck should be investing their money and revenue into being self sufficient. it is just hard to see some of the tribes getting to that point when they are more worried about their political positions and what they or their families can get out of it. When they should be finding ways of helping their tribe and truly becoming self governed.

Alright well here is something that I don't think many people realize or think about. But it happens everytime the Democratic party has power, and it's not a slam Rep V. Dem, it's just fact and anyone can research it at anytime. Over the last 30 years or more, when Dems have control, healthcare and the military budgets get SLASHED, that's just fact. So healthcare costs go up, more people go without healthcare and Democrats scream that we need a universal healthcare program, it's a vicious political conundrum. With those cuts, goes a trickle down funding system much like Dems are screaming about Republicans now, those who can afford to pay for medical get the funding first to help ease the burden of the raising cost, then those with insurance and finally whats left goes to those on state insurance, (in Az that's Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS)and IHS, which is already grossly underfunded to begin with, and if I remember correctly isn't there a thread about the underfunding of IHS in the Native Issues category? I don't really think that any new legislation and or bill is going to improve or maintain IHS as it is, but will eventually disassemble it completely.

With the world moving closer to being a GLOBAL society and trying to wipe away gender, ethnic and racial differences, we will eventually no longer need Indian Health Services, because there will no longer be Indians, but we will ALL be humans. We are moving to the 1 race society. There will be no more black or white, red or yellow, but just human.

I've said this for about ten years.

1. If there is universal healthcare, who needs IHS?
2. If there's not universal healthcare, who can afford IHS?

Well, IHS is free here, BUT, the level and qaulity of care is HORRIBLE! It's also grossly underfunded and if it can't afford to treat you, you also can't get help at any other hospital because they will refer you back to IHS. Basically you have to check into county under an assumed name, eventually they come to register you and hope by that time you've been treated or are being treated.
