If the bullrider has had injuries in the past they may prefer to wear a helmet. I know it doesn't look very good, hey its bullriding, but he may want to save his head for further injuries. When you have a 2000 pound bull coming atcha. It isn't good. LOL LOL |
RE: Hockey/Football Helmets & Bullriding
It certainly makes sense from a safety perspective. But it does kinda ruin the whole rodeo "look." I'd rather see cowboy hats - but that's easy for me to say, I'm not the one tryin' to ride a bull! Down here, some construction workers, road workers, etc. wear cowboy hard hats. |

Nice vids from Coushatta, Mr. Bailey. I had always pictured you a little younger.

Modern bullriders also wear special vests to protect ribs and spine. Falling from a horse is bad, the impact at weird angle, people get hurt bad! So, falling from a raging, spinning 2,000 pound bull is super-bad, and also they try to hook and stomp you?:hypnotize Not for wimps LOL |

Oh, I know! I remember this one rodeo up in Tulsa years ago. One of the bullriders was thrown and the bull came back and did a little dance on him while he was on the ground. He was taken away, but then (amazingly) came back a little later. He was thrown again and the bull again came back and did a dance on him. He didn't come back, at least not that day!
My late brother had a friend who used to ride bulls. He ended up losing a good part of one of his lungs from being gored. I have a healthy respect for the power of livestock!!! |
