Reality Television

I love reality shows. Real people (i think) doing things that tv stars get to to everyday. Lately I have seen a reality show on every single station including sattelite, and cable. When does it go to far or has television already done that.. I hope the networks dont burn the viewers out on too much reality what are your opinions?... :) :37:

ndnkidz:

When reality shows began, they were getting real people who had real reactions, emotions and fears.

Now it has been rumored that the people in some reality shows are not genuine, actually lied or had preconcieved outcomes during their involvement of the reality show.

The originality wears off when every network is doing it, as you pointed out. Now, the effect seems to be leaning toward the "shock value."

Reality shows are just a passing television trend.

"What is popular today, will be passe', next year at this time."

Mike "Boogie" admits freely that he acted on Big Brother just to promote his bar in LA.

There was also a show shot in Hawaii, and then they "reshoot" scenes in a local park, and changed the outcome. One contestant refused to participate.

I think the people doing the casting are going to have to get even tougher on auditions. There are still people out there that want to have the experience for the sake of the adventure, but most now want the exposure.

Some of the shows are starting to get close to crossing the line of what's right!

There was one shot in England where single guys try to compete for a women's affection. At the end it was revealed she was a he! All of the guys sued and the show never aired! That is going a little too far.

The surprise shows to me are ok, but I'd rather see people put into stressfull situations and watch how they all handle it.

I'm sick of these Trading Spaces type shows. They've taken over. There's enough of them on Lifetime and TLC and Oxygen and whatever other cable station shows them. Now theyre showing them on Saturday mornings!!! You gotta be kidding. Do kids really wanna see that? Where's the Smurfs? Where's Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd? Where's the Gummi Bears? I even saw a Trading Spaces type show on network TV the other night during primetime. Get it out of here. I wanna see George Lopez, Seinfeld, Frasier, the Cosby Show, Steve Harvey, Bernie Mac or whatever other sitcom is popular now. I dont wanna see some remodeling BS. Its all Bob Vila's fault.

Yeah...don't forget Felix the Cat and Scooby Doo! That Trading Spaces thing never made sense to me.

Any of you caught the one taking place in Chicago, Starting Over? It is a house full of women from all different walks of life working with Life Coaches trying to change some aspects of their life and hopefully to not only gains skills but wisdom to help them be able to do this. I like watching it. As one woman "graduates" another one comes to take her place.

I also like watching it because it is filmed in Chicago and they show clips of the city... we're sitting here saying.. "oh..that's over by... or heyyyyyy... there is so and so's house! "

Yeah... that was it. She was letting go of the grief of her dead husband. He died like 7 yrs ago and was finding it hard to let go of him. He was the love of her life and died suddenly after 3 mos. of marriage. She really did well.

Her pain was evident, probably the closest to reality on tv.

The most amusing reality tv was where the parents get to put the potential dates to the lie dector test.

Anybody watch Swan last night?

I like that the women gained self esteem, but it the whole show seem a bit odd to me. They were coaching them to be more secure about themselves and the way they look, while at the same time giving the breast enhancements, new teeth, tummy tucks, etc. Kinda contradictory???

:flaming: If you want reality...go to a powwow, I guarantee you will have all the aspects of "reality TV" in real life. For starters, there are the "Snaggers" who think they are all that and try to snag as many people as they can in 3 days. (Hey, gathering would be perfect for this). Then you have the Big Brother thing going on...except these are Native Big Brothers who take up for their little sisters who may fall prey to the "don juan" of the weekend. hhhmmm...I can't think of any other reality shows...OH WAIT...there is Fear Factor thing going on, with ethnic foods that some tribes crave and other tribes don't even wanna go there (for example, Cow Tounge and Tripe *cow guts* are a delicassy up here). Any ohter thoughts? :rofl2:

I have to agree, I really like to watch the Real World. It's funny to watch all the drama those kids get into. I also like that one show where that one chick went on spring break and her boyfriend secretly went also and spied on her and busted her messing up. I got a kick out that one. :rofl2:
