Ate some cheese curls with some green tea while I caught up on the last political debate, which because I don't have cable I had to watch on CNN's website. What a bunch of tools, watching it I would have thought I was watching stand up comedy... LOL

I've come to the conclusion that all politicians are lying clowns. LOL!

RD, those oysters look good. Are they by any chance Appalachicola oysters? They kind of look like it. Those are the best oysters!! Huge, too. The scallops look pretty good, too. Some places will use stingray for scallops-just cut the meat out of the wings with a small biscuit cutter. They are usually thinner than real scallops. As long as they tell me, I don't mind.

I've brought some Jewish Penicillin/Chicken Soup for you. Ya can start with the broth, and then work up to the solid pieces.

There's enough for everyone, but comadre gets first dibs since she's been ill.

They might be. I don't know. But I've had Apalachicola oysters before, and you're right they are good! It's hard to go wrong with oysters for me. If I'm out to eat with people, I'll get a dozen for myself and tell everyone else to get their own if they want any!

If I remember right, while I was down in Fl. I had some Canoe Lagoons, some Fanny Bays, Miyagis, Blue Points, Umamis, and I think some Kumamotos. Raw oysters and beer! mmmmm I've loved it since I was a child!

Yeah, I agree...I don't mind eating stingray if I'm told that's that it is - just don't tell me it's scallops! Some places will also substitute Tilapia for Grouper. Not acceptable!!! Nothing wrong with tilapia, but don't tell me it's grouper, and don't charge me for grouper when ya put tilapia on my plate!

No wonder you are so slim, yaahl.

I took a walk yesterday and I was proud of myself for being all marathon like.

Why thank you... I did the 10km in 48m35sec (not too shabby for this granny). Got stuck behind a wide load... lady with her jogging stroller and dog...had to hold back until the path got wider to pass her.

That chicken soup looks good. Think I will see if I can get my husband to make some beef stew this weekend. We've got a northeaster going and it's supposed to bring in some rain. Hope so-we really need rain. The temps have cooled off, too, the high today is only supposed to be around 80, but with a cool breeze out of the NE at a steady 35mph, it will be wonderful. Good beef stew and biscuit weather.
The dog is going nuts with the wind blowing. We've got a pecan tree next to the house. Not many nuts on it this year because of the drought, but the wind is dropping what few there are on the roof. I think the dog believes that squirrels are trying to break in to attack him. LOL!

Funny how different regions view cooler weather... up here in Canuckistan, we don't do stews until there is frost on the ground or the temps stay in the single digits. lol

Good sign for our hunting trip, saw a few herds on the move and the colder weather has brought the rut on... Hopefully, we'll have a freezer full of meat in a couple of weeks.

The house I grew up in, we had about 20 pecan trees in the yard. Back then I hated having to go out and pick up all the pecans off the ground! Had to do that before I mowed the lawn each week. Pecans can become deadly missiles when run over by a lawnmower!!! You'd think I woulda gotten tired of 'em...but nope...I still love pecans. I hardly ever see salted and roasted pecans in the stores though. It's always cashews, peanuts and almonds. Mmmmmm.....pecans!!!

LOL. If we waited til the temps stayed in the single digits...we might never have stew again!

I'm looking forward to winter. I'm getting in the mood for more wintery foods. Beans w/vinegar, and cornbread. Chili (and cornbread). Turnips (and cornbread). Cream of wild rice soup w/sausage. Winter is good crockpot season!

I'm looking forward to winter. I'm getting in the mood for more wintery foods. Beans w/vinegar, and cornbread. Chili (and cornbread). Turnips (and cornbread). Cream of wild rice soup w/sausage. Winter is good crockpot season!
If the temps ever hit single digits here and stay that way, I am headed for somewhere that doesn't ever happen. LOL! Not a big fan of turnips, but love any kind of beans and cornbread. We cook them in the pressure cooker. Tried them in the crockpot a couple of times and they just don't taste the same. Doesn't take as long, either. I just "quick soak" the beans-while I'm cleaning them, I nuke about 4 cups of water, add that to the beads in a bowl, cover and let sit for 4 or 5 hours. Then toss them in the pressure cooker with seasoning, let them jiggle for 5-10 mins., depending on the beans, then, let them cool, take the lid off and simmer for about an hour-again depending on what kind of beans they are.
I was terrified of the pressure cooker when we first got it. All comes from getting home from school one day, as I was headed in the house, I heard a weird noise, my mom screamed and my dad started swearing. They had a huge pressure cooker/canner and had been canning green beans. Got in the house and there were green beans everywhere-ceiling, counters, walls, parents, even the cat. The safety thing blew off, then the lid followed it. When I got older, I realized they were lucky they weren't seriously hurt, but at the time, I was around 10, it seemed kind of funny.

Comadre:

Hope you are feeling better after your op. I got your message (how come you don't have your messages on your profile turned on?) When I mentioned in the thread about folks not showing up I wasn't referring to family. I was referring to folks who are for the lack of a better term, weekend warriors and princesses or the ones who have self proclaimed to be a medicine/elder/ceremony conductor etc... it's those folks that never seem to rock up to meetings that involve our issues. Why they don't is simple, their lack of community/family ties or job related tasking are the reason. For those that charge money for doing ceremonies etc, if there is no money in it for them they tend not to show up. They also tend to stay away because they can't sustain their superficial knowledge base long enough not to be questioned and the fakers don't want to be outed.

Beautiful day on the prairies... hovering at 2c this morning. Going to finished tidying up the house for the in-law visit. I started my hubby's button vest last night and so far it's going good...with the cooler weather I can continue sewing on the buttons to my blanket - it was just too hot over July and August to have it across my lap...lol

Hope everyone has a great Sunday!
