Yes. The ones I've had were all sweet, egg doughs -- like a brioche or kolache. It was explained to me it that it is made with sugar or honey because the loaf commemorates the manna from heaven which was sweet. But that could be like some of the legends floating around about our cultures.

One of these days for sure. When I was still in my teens I painted/drew portraits for a living in a corner of a Mexican jewelry store. My friend Pete the jeweler did some amazing custom pieces there. I used to love to watch him. He had an uncanny knack for talking smack and working his art at the same time LOL.

I have always wanted to get into silversmithing-and glass. I would love to learn how to fuse glass.

So, what cha got to eat that will help this stoopid sinus infection? chicken noodle soup I reckon, and a grilled cheese. :)

Thanks-gonna hit the clinic when I get off work in the morning and see if I can get some antibiotics. Been dealing with this 10 days, and that's long enough. Headed back to Fl. for a visit over Labor Day, and the friend I am staying with is having chemo, so heaven knows I don't want to add my germs to her already weak immune system.

The dog got "the" operation this morning, and he has antibiotics, but I'm kinda chickenchit to take his. ROFL!!

yeah...def get your own, that's not chicken, that's smart. They will prolly give you a 3-day z pak.

We're headed for Tahlequah over labor day. Scraped all our pennies together, turned the couch upside down and everything, turned in our recycling LOL.... It's the first time for my kids getting on a plane. We're really lookin forward to it.

Not sweet like a dessert, but it is sweeter and richer (b/c of all the eggs) than regular bread.

Have a good time in Tahlequah! I haven't been through there since I was in my early twenties (way too many years ago).

Challah for Rosh Hashana/New Years is made sweeter than everyday challah - for a "sweet new year." The "manna from heaven" explanation is a legit one, one of many. Everything is symbolic, from the number of braids, when it's braided and when not, why it's covered on the Shabbos table, etc..

+++++++++++++

I don't remember if it's the Rosh Hashanah or Shabbos one. I write keeper recipes down in a notebook so I don't have to have multiple cookbooks open at once. I'll look when I get home tonight. I'll also resurrect the recipes thread and post it there.

+++++++++++++

Next time I make challah, I think I'll make some extra dough. I've often wondered what challah frybread would be like.

+++++++++++++

Yes, I've made her lekach (honey cake). It's good, but I have another recipe I use. It's one of our local rabbi's mother's recipes. It's much better than the dry honey cake most people make.
