Gotcha beat-I got a 6 day weekend. Only bad thing about that is when I finally come back to work, I've got 8 days in a row to work. Oh well, I will start thinking about that next Wed..

Warmer weather is here to stay. Spring has finally sprung here! Went for a nice 2.2 mile walk around lunch time along the river trails.

I have a 3 day weekend, next weekend.

Whats the dinner special tonight?

They're kinda like GirlScout cookies - they're not made with real GirlScout as an ingredient.

But they're SO YUMMY! Of course, I never measure, but take 1# of ground burger (beef, pork, elk, even porcupine ), 1 egg, 1/2 cup uncooked rice, 1/2 cup water, 1 Teaspoon pepper, 1 tsp, salt, 1/4 - 1/2 cup minced onion (depending on your taste), and mix and form into golfball size meatballs, or ping pong ball size, or even 1 inch size.

Bake or fry in a skillet for 10 minutes, then add the sauce, cover, and continue baking or simmer in the skillet for an hour.

Sauce:
1 16oz can tomato sauce, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce....OR
1 can tomato soup, 1can water, 3 T brown sugar, 3 T worchestershire sauce...OR
Spaghetti sauce cut with a little water, if you don't like worchester sauce

You can add other seasoning to your meatballs, if you desire: onion powder, garlic powder, celery salt, even pureed canned carrots. Likewise with the sauce...tasting as you go, and altering, is what cooking is all about.

Back to porcupine...I heard it's good dark meat, but greasy. And I think they ferment the tails...or is that beaver? Although, I did hear that they are what they eat, so if you eat one that has been eating nothing but pine or cedar, they may not taste very good. And a survival site says you can eat the meat raw with no harm...if you really needed to.

I hope that didn't ruin your appetite for porkypine meatballs - thus called because as the rice cooks, it sticks out of the meatballs, like quills...kinda...

Oh and that's baking in a regular 350 degree oven, and you can even add more rice for more "quills". Just add an equal amount of water. ENJOY!!

Thats pretty cool. I figured I'd ask. I've eaten pretty unique things before like guinea pig and horse meat (while traveling in South America) and my mom has told me she ate possum before so I really don't reject too many food ideas out there.

Exclamation Just dropping by!

Hello to those who remember me, and to everybody else too!!!
And I will not stay a long time. My days get shorter and shorter as I get more and more activity in local ecological battles for future generations and Mother Earth.

Have a long time wondering what road to take, and I believe I have found it! As our society is getting more and more corrupted and polluted in this neverending run for movey and property, I will do my best to reconnect myself to the nature, and rediscover old tradition which respect Mother Earth and Humanity. I have no longer a desire to follow the main-stream, but prefer to follow the small river flowing in silence and with no intention of getting big and powerful!

I have already spoken out on this forum, and I will do it again!
Being ignorant, I thought I would find what I was looking for on this Native Forum, but I was wrong!!!
Many of you decided to follow the white mans road, earning money and buying buying buying buying buying ....
Where would you stop? When do you arrive at your goal in your life? How many cars would you need, how many TV, how many $$$$???

Why not trying to get back to a simple why of life, and try to be happy with what you have?

I know, some of you will hate me for these words, but may be also some of you would agree with me!
I respect you all, what ever road you have decided to take, and a sadness for those who are not able to say STOP!

You may see me again on this forum, but under another name, not because I want to hide myself, but it symbolize better my mind of spirit.

Well that was random.

We do remember you.

Inventing, buying, and using technology is all part of evolution and the advancement of our species. Are there bad things being done with it in the name of money and greed? You bet your arse there is. Can we improve the environmental impact of how we build and use tech? Absolutely there is room for improvement and green solutions.

My job revolves around technology (I do AV and broadcast engineering and production). It's what puts food on my table, a roof over our heads, health insurance coverage, electricity in the outlets, internet through my house, gas in my truck and allows me to afford to powwow. My taxes (I pay a lot) fund things like SNAP (food assistance) to poor families, roads and bridges, public education, public transit, military, police, fire, paramedics, NASA, and other things that serve for the greater good.

We always welcome and embrace our European brothers. Especially those who are computer programmers like you, who want to teach us the good road. Maybe you can teach me how to hunt ferrel cats, and grow big blocks of commod cheese in my garden.

Excuse me while I walk outside and kick the azz of the first hippie I see.

Thanks for your words, Toolbox!
I agree that the technology is part of the evolution and the advancement of our species, IF it is correctly used! You and me knows there is always a good and a bad way of using a given technology, but it gives some persons the idea that they are superior to other civilizations, cultures and Mother Earth. There are far too many example of a destructive use of the technology. It often looks like we are doing a de-evolution!!!

I made a video a few days, not far from where I live. Even though the text is in french, you will understand the message!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QccH1VLQ0Tc

Yes, I also believe that the technology can improvement and bring us green solutions, but this is a more an exception than a rule.
I’m happy for you, you seems to have a job you like, and participating in the broadcast and production is very important, but again, it depends on the subjects. If it talks about the possible green solution for the energy, I would say BRAVO, but if you try to show me how the shale-gas produces jobs and wealth, I would not support you!

And thank you to gilisi!
Thank you for welcoming me as a brother, and yes, computer programming has been my life, BUT this does not mean I support todays development! When I receive 4-5 commercial telephones call pr. day, it is with the help of computers, and I'm not prode to be a programmer. This technology is advancing far to quick!!! The day when the telephones is flooded by virus and “hijacked”, people will start to wake up, but not before.

I’m not here to teach you the good way. I came here because I thought YOU were going to teach me the good way!!!! How to hunt ferrel cats, who to live of what Mother Natur gives us etc., but I may be wrong...

Did you find any hippies outside??? You may call me a “hippie”, but I don’t look like them. I may agree with some of their ideas, but I’m not ready to join their camp. As I said above, I do believe in technology, when we can control it, and if used in a positive and constructive way.

(Let me warn the regulars, I'm recycling parts of a old post.)

Wow, what a load of paternalistic, organic bovine-generated fertilizer! Another wasicu looks at my life and finds I don't measure up to his romanticized idea of Indianness. Another white missionary to save my benighted Injun soul. Gee, what a freaking surprise. It must be Tuesday.

If I followed your rant, you're disappointed because I'm not in my buckskins and tipi, living off the land. Who are you to judge us? Another non-Indian with preconceived notions of what Indians are like. You have no idea of who we are and what our cultures are really like.

My people prayed and still pray: "That these people might live." They developed the best adaptive technology they could to live in their world. They were and are keen observers of their land, and conformed their technology to best respect the forces the they understood to be sustaining their lives. They engaged in large scale interventions with their environment, like burning off vast areas of grass to encourage the growth of tender fodder for their main prey animals, and to clean out the underbrush to encourage certain berries, herbs and animals. (Heck of a carbon footprint, that.)

They studied animals and plants amassing knowledge to intervene in illness and injury. But I strongly suspect had you asked my great-great-grandmother who lost a sister, son and two brothers in one day from imported cholera if she'd have had any trouble with the use of a few bags of IV solution that might have saved their lives, she'd have said no. She'd have welcomed it.

The old days weren't a utopia. (If you have any doubts on that, come to South Dakota in January and trot outside the ol' tipi in a howling blizzard to urinate. I suspect you'll rethink that technology thing, real fast.)

As for the whole feral cat thing... You can discuss that to my latest adoptee, a feral-born three-legged kitten who I rescued from being killed by a un-neutered tom. I think she liked the surgery and antibiotics that saved her life.
