I need salty snack food. There is a special place in hell for colleagues that don't tell you, until ten minutes before 5pm on Friday, that they "just" found out they will need new NC programs for the optic first thing Monday morning. I've just kissed another weekend goodbye.

After 8 weeks of 7 day work weeks, I'm starting to have feelings for my mouse. We're planning to run off together.

Went for a lunch time walk since it's the first "nice" day in weeks since it's been raining a lot here. The air has been getting thicker and thicker and the humidity is on the rise as the day wears on and we are supposed to get thunder storms now.

I need something really cold to drink

In about 4 hours I will be on the way home from the last of an 8 day week. Thank heavens!!!! Until then, I will have coffee, please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll be throwing some water filled Blue Bunny ice cream containers in the freezer tomorrow just in case this system off to the East moves a little closer NW than they are saying. That's something I usually do this time of year anyhow since it's soon going to be hurricane season. Blue Bunny will be the only ice cream now-well, at least until I am happy with the amount of ice stockpiled in the freezer. They have changed to these awesome plastic containers that will make great blocks of ice.

The VP of our division bought in bagels for us today and now I have my coffee.

We just got a new beastly fully loaded Mac Pro, it looks like a shiny expensive 1.5 gallon trash can. Now it's time to get this stupid Adobe Creative Cloud installed on it.

I feel for your Mac-woes. I spent the morning in a meeting rolling out the iPhone app for the larger test team, and last night trying to figure how I had screwed up the code signing. All my phones and the prototype peripherals have gone to spend the holiday weekend being used. Printed out 70 copies of my bug report forms.

Trash can, LOL. Sometimes I think the design team out there on Infinite Loop watched 2001 a few too many times. I frequently feel like my new Apple hardware is a black monolith that has materialized in front on me, humming slightly. I want to pick a club and whack it, grunting: "what kind of weird *** connecter hole is this and does anything plug into it that costs less than $1K?"
Someday a brust of radio static will come from it and I will understand the war on mouse buttons. I will feel better about hand cramping hockey pucks, white featureless humps with a single gray nipple, and slabs of metal that I must stroke and caress....

But I have them at home and work. I've even spread the disease to my family.

I'm off the run a few wind sprints and sing a chorus of Daisy with my computer. Have a good holiday.

(I promise I'll get de-geeked this weekend.)

Speaking of "2001", when we got the machine dropped off to us yesterday evening from the people that install our encryption and other enterprise security junk on it he had stuck a picture of "Hal 9000" onto the front of it. The Mac Pro is really quite nice, we got the upgraded processor to the 8 core Xeon E5, max RAM (64GB), 1TB of flash based internal storage, and dual ATI FirePro D700 GPUs with 6GB Ram. The pain this morning stemmed from the fact that we have an Adobe Creative Cloud license server on site and getting Adobe CC installed is a bit of a pain. The application installs the entire suite, even programs that we don't need or use. Once the application is installed then we have to install and run a 2MB licensing script application that takes even longer than the 23GB CC install. All up and running now but it just took forever. Editing is such a snap on this little guy. This Mac Pro is shared within my team.

When my work machine, a 2012 fully loaded MacBook Pro, goes out of warranty later this year and they ask me what I want to replace it with I'm going to put in to get a Mac Pro, of course the base model with some RAM and storage upgrades since they won't sing the cost of a Mac Pro like the one I mentioned above. I need to run Parallels so I can run AutoCAD and other Windows only applications on it and still have access to the discreet graphics cards. The iMacs they are giving to people for refreshed machines don't have discreet GPUs and thus AutoCad will suck. The nice thing is that when my new machine arrives they will sign the my work machine over to me and I can take it home and keep it forever. Thats how I got this MacBook Pro I'm using now.

One final nerdy thing - I used to be the biggest Mac hater but their computers are built really well and this laptop is from Mid-2010 and it still works extremely well and the battery holds it's charge just as if it was brand new.

They do.

I had my come to Steve experience in 2003, while holding a fire extinguisher over a brand spanking new power supply for a high end *brand name omitted* PC attached to my specs. It was the third one from a run that would later be recalled because of bad electrolytic caps. The first two had just refused to power up more than once and when removed had two grotesquely swollen 1000uf, 35V caps next to the transformer. This one worked for a week then started smoking.

We're all Mac at work except for instruments and machines that come with PC's. We run Macs into the ground. And it can be a long run. There's a laptop in use by one of our engineers that has had a longer career than it's last three users. It's a late 2006 Mac book pro. We have mini's running hydraulic presses that are 2004's. They become unupgradable, but if they're single use, unnetworked machines we'll let em' go until they die. (Of course, we also have a piece of test equipment run by a Commodore 64, a couple of PIC controllers older than my HS diploma, and few presses with '94 IBM laptops. So it could be that we're just running a home for geriatric computers, LOL.)

They say blood is thicker than water ! Now maple syrup is thicker than blood , so are pancakes more important than family ?

There are "Elders" and there are "Olders". Being the second one doesn't make the first one true !

Somebody is out there somewhere, thinking of you and the impact you made in their life.
It's not me....I think you're an idiot !

There's a chance you might not like me ,

but there's a bigger

chance I won't care
