That is better than having it lasting until August but worse enough.

I suffer with you. It can be really nasty. Rain and see air is helpful. But Inland, the see is far away.

For us it's the mountain cedar (juniper) from Dec to March. It's known locally as cedar fever. Those dang trees, certain times of the year you'll see yellow clouds coming off the trees when the wind blows.

Ches, I have no idea about traditional Shawnee mourning. I think you should mourn until one day you realize, that there is color in your world again.

What happened to everyone? Is it Christmas? It is not pow wow season yet. I cleaned out 5 trash cans of junk out of my wife’s 97 Tahoe. Before she passed away, she always wanted to fix it up (get it running, crack in roof, paint, seats). I will drive it.

I've been eaten alive by my house. Arson is beginning to look good, LOL. (Just joking Mr/Ms Insurance Man.)

The brand new, 4 month old heater has broken down twice. It won't turn on for hours but will turn on the freaking minute the repair tech arrives. (The last time it restarted and cleared any error messages while the tech was parking his truck.) Since my opening it would void the warranty, I haven't been able to see any of the diagnostic LED's.

The kicker is the failure symptoms have been exactly the same as those that lead to the replacement of the old system. Since the only remaining part of the old system are: the duct work, gas pipe from the meter to the attic, the electrical wiring, the vent stack on the roof, and the thermostat (and its wiring). I'm betting on the thermostat or thermostat wiring. I was final able to persuade the last tech to replace the thermostat. No failures since then, but we're in the waning days of heating season. The unit is only coming on 3-4 times just before dawn.

My studio is dragging on -- still no siding, windows, doors, only roughed in electrical and plumbing. The wasps and the neighbor's cats have taken over. I'm not even going to talk about it. I just lose my temper.

We had a good meeting today. Sounds like the staffing problems are resolved and work will resume.

What's been so frustrating is that the work is beautiful, when they get to it. These folks have worked in this neighborhood for years. They're matching almost all of the trim and siding details from the main house. They used modern sheathing on the roof, but under the eaves they put tongue and groove boards to match the main house. They have the special narrow wood clapboards. The big compromises are the windows -- which are composite not wood -- and the textured steel door.

The doors and windows are going in on Mon. The siding and trim will go up Tues. Then they have to insulate the inside and wait for an inspection. After that the dry wall will go up.

I don't have dates for the electrician, AC or final plumbing. The cabinets have to be built.

I have added an engineered bamboo floor and an additional cabinet, so that has upped the costs bit. But I dropped a finished piece of jewelry on the concrete floor at the lapidary shop. It dented it so badly, I had to tear it apart and replace the bail. The bamboo will cushion things a bit, but is heat resistant enough that it will scorch but not burn if I drop hot silver while soldering.

Be hard on the electrician if he has to run the wires after the drywall is put on.

The electrical and plumbing rough in are done and inspected. Sorry, I was talking about installing the outlets, switches, breaker box and vent fan.

Chuy, some tanaashgiizh (hope I spelled that right) with brown sugar and raisins, please.

Well, we didn't get the predicted baseball and larger hail last night, at least not in DFW. Although we still had a heck of a storm between 11:30pm and 1:30am. We were supposed to get clobbered right at rush hour. The news kept talking about the 1995 Mayfest hail storm which did $2 billion in damage and killed 13 people. Schools and colleges had shut down early. Southwest and American cancelled flights. Going home last night was kind of spooky. No one was out. The parking garages in the hospitals in my neighborhood, were few homes have garages, were full.

They are *finally* putting up the siding and trim on the 10'x12' glorified shed which will be my studio. The interior dry wall is up, but not textured. The city finally signed off on the fire inspection.

I don't quite understand my contractor's order of operations. If I were going to be installing flooring and cabinets in a confined space in Texas when its already in the mid to upper 80's, I'd have the electrical and AC finished first.

I've been begging them to install a lock on the door for weeks. I've had a couple encounters with neighborhood looky-los and someone scavenging/stealing construction supplies. Apparently, my contractor met up with someone in the shed with his tools when he came back from lunch. I have a deadbolt.

This is a time honored technique in the neighborhood. Anyone who gets any of the custom millwork for these old house reproduced or does extensive interior demolition can expect to have folks asking for or just taking scraps. A reproduction house is being built two doors down. They are doing the exterior wood work and every night, after they shut down, folks walk by or drive up and dig in the dumpster. I repaired missing oak trim pieces in my living room by dumpster diving at the demo of a fire damaged house.

That storm is headed for us tomorrow. I'm just hoping it holds off until I'm hoping it holds off until I can get home from PT.

I don't think I mentioned that we had an accident in the rental car on our way home. I stopped at a traffic light and this 80+ year old woman behind me didn't stop. (Happened on my birthday, too.) I've spent the last several days trying to sort out the mess with the rental car company and the insurance company and trying to figure out why I have to pay a deductable (even though I'll get it back) when I'm the one who got hit, not the one who did the hitting. Fortunately, nobody got hurt. It's just frustrating me to no end.
