I drove by the local gourmet market, this morning. The hatch chiles have arrived. They were running the roaster next to the fire pit in the cafe patio.
![]() Soon it will be time for fresh elk and green chile stew. |

Sounds as if I should try your food.
After competition ceremony, we had a two different ceremonies, German and Eurpoean, wild boar. One was being goulash with pasta and the other one, hmmm, looked like rice with wild boar in form of birdshot shot into the rice. From that one I got two (small) dishes making up one normal size dishes. Anyway, In distress the devil eats flies and today the devil had less than flies. |

Wow, today I can't read.
In der Not frisst der Teufel Fliegen. That idiom I recognize. In English we'd say: beggars can't be choosers. But... Is that also an idiom or is your expansion on the phrase? Was there actually birdshot in your wild boar? Or did someone try to make a small piggy to feed a big crowd by cutting it up and mixing it with rice until it looked like birdshot? Green chile stew, even made with pork shoulder, is very good. I have one tub of mild green from last year in the freezer. I've been waiting for some cooler weather to make stew. We've had a string of >100F days. Not hot soup weather at all. |

It is an expansion I remember from school, if I remember right, it was told to us by the monk some 40 years ago. LOL, he was a very good teacher. May he rest in piece. "In der Not frisst der Teufel Fliegen und heute hatte der Teufel weniger als Fliegen." Quote:
In Agna the Temperatures were up 34°C in the shadows though there was most of the day no shadows on the camping ground. At least the shooting ranges were in the shadows. If you dressed up for shooting, within less than minutes you were sweating like hell. I stayed as much as I could at the pool of the shooting range. LOL. By the way, I would like to take a little bit of your stew.

Slow Cooker Green Chile Stew
2 Tbsp oil; 2 large onion2, chopped; 4 cloves garlic, crushed; 1-2 lb mild green chiles, chopped (if fresh, roast, skin and de-seed first); 3 lb pork shoulder, cut into 1" cubes; 1 - 10-14 oz can of chopped tomatoes; 4 large potatoes, peeled and cubed (large); 2 zucchini, sliced; 2 yellow squash, sliced; 1 c frozen corn; 2-3 qt chicken stock; 2 tsp ground cumin; 2 tsp Mexican oregano; 1/4 c flour; 1/2 tsp ground black pepper; salt. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the onion and garlic until transparent. Transfer to slow cooker. Brown the pork in the skillet. Transfer to slow cooker and sprinkle with flour. Deglaze the skillet with a couple cups of stock and add. Add green chiles, tomatoes, potatoes, cumin, oregano, and stock. The amount of chiles and stock depend on how spicy and how thick you want your stew. Cook on low for 8 - 10 hours. The last hour of cooking, adjust the seasoning to taste. Add the zucchini, squash and corn and turn slow cooker to high. |

Of course, finding the right kind of chiles in Germany might be hard. It is easier to just go to NM, LOL.
Have your first bowl, with sopapillas, at the Church Street Cafe in Old Town, Albq. And/or try the stew at Pueblo Harvest at the Pueblo Cultural Center. Drive out to Acoma and have a meal at Y'aak’a Cafe. For a change swing, up to Farmington and hit AshKii's Navajo Grill. The mutton ribs, fry bread, and blue corn pudding are good. Or go to the Farmington Indian Center restaurant; get some good ol' mutton stew. If it were me, I'd wait to buy that plane ticket until first frost in northern NM. Then the pinon sellers will be out force. If it's an early frost, you might even be lucky enough to be able to go to a feast day at one of the pueblos. |

Hope dies last, you know.
May be I'll have to wait until 2027 to fly to NM. Not sure, I have to check, if I will have the chance to get to Edgewood in June in the years between 2023 and 2027 with a trip to places of choice after the event at Edgewood. LOL, as teacher I am bound to the school holidays and that mostly isn't the right time. |

It's been crispy hot here the last 10 days. Last weekend, the feel like temp hit 115. It's been raining too, so the air feels like it weighs tons. We're supposed to get about 3 inches or more of rain over the weekend. Yippee-not. They've started logging some property near ours, I've been super mega alert going out to the car at night, for any displaced things that slither might be in a bad mood since they are now homeless.

Chuy, could I please have a bowl of shrimp and cheese grits?
All this talk of snakes has made me miss JD, LOL. Well, I worked in the studio for two hours before work this morning. I made jump rings and a bail. I hate making jump rings. My thumbs are sore from hanging on to tiny coils of wire while I sawed. I couldn't find my "Gator Grip" tape. I think accidentally threw away a $30+ sterling box clasp, when I was cleaning up after the alarm company. It was in a fairly grubby plastic bag. I've emptied every drawer in my bench and soldering area; gone through all my boxes and bins; and moved all the furniture. I suspect it hit the ground when I moved the bench so they could drill holes in the ceiling, and then I swept it up, with all the plaster dust and tiny plastic bags that had held various mounting screws and batteries. I'll either have to make one, which will take me a full day, or order a new one. Grrr. |

At this point, I'd like to get anywhere that isn't my lab/office. October, when I'm going to NM and AZ, is too far away.

Last day of holiday today. We start tomorrow with what is called "Nachprüfung".
Chance to graduate into the next class although the aim at the end of the year was failed, graduating into the next class. LOL, October is the next vacancy and days are planned for mom. Sigh, had hoped to enter retirement in august 2023 but it looks like becoming 2025 or end of january 2026. I still hope that I can attend at least one real (ndn) pow wow in my lifetime. In the past there seems have been real (ndn) pow wows in Germany. |

Just a heads up. I plan to die tomorrow. It's going to be 104F. The humidity is going to be >70%. The heat indexes with be in the 110-115F range. Leaving work tomorrow, I'm going to open my car door, the blast of hot air will melt me like the wicked witch and I'll flow into the gutter outside the plant.
Subeeds, who's had this all summer, can stand over the drippings and laugh :) |

I suppose 104°F in the shaddows but the question may be, where are the shaddows.
If there is a little wind, open the doors of the right and left side and stay out of the stream of hot air. You might cook eggs on the tin of the engine hood. I would be desperate if you melt down. |

Have some protein for the dancing and a little sweet treat. Way better than the dusty doughnut in the bakery case, LOL. |
