Ahh, spring time in Texas. We're following in last spring's practice of staging tiny, intense damaging Sunday thunderstorms. Golf ball sized hail and a 0.5" of rain in 10 mins over a 2-3 mile wide band. Our county's 911 service has been knocked out.

My car's old hail damage didn't get any new hail damage, LOL. I did get a cracked window on my house.
At least the power didn't go out. I had beef bourguignon in the crock pot. I'm getting so sick of my own cooking. |

May I sincerely offer a (pseudo german) cookbook to try out new old ideas?
You'd bettter never try out my cooking except in an emergency. The only time in my lieftime I have seen golf ball sized hails cracked the thick double glas paneel of the Bilux windwow on the roof. Fortunatley only the first paneel. And that is more than ten years ago. |

Tomorrow will be another day of severe storms. I dislike spring time in Texas. Pray for my roof, tree and windshield.

It is getting bad when every post is about CHOCOLATE. I am currently not going for chocolate or pizza. They make my clothes shrink.

Dodged the tornadoes Thursday. We were under 3 different ones for 3 hours. One hit the ground about 3hours by car from here and stayed on the ground until it was on the coast about 4 miles north of us. Then it turned into a water spout. I must say that it broke up the bordem.

I haven't left the house yet, except to go out to the studio or the drive the car around to keep the battery charged. Sadly, I have been singularly unproductive at my bench. I haven't come up with a good design since this started. Nor have I brought anything across the finish line.
The shop at the rockhound club has been closed. I did order a flat lap so I could do lapidary work at home. It was in two Fed Ex boxes. One with the accessories and more saw blades was delivered today. The other, with the machine, is MIA. And Fed Ex tracking is down. I'm being so ravingly paranoid that I'm afraid porch pirates have gotten it but left the Charmin box full of tp that Staples delivered this afternoon, LOL. I suspect the street value of tp is higher than cabbing machines right now. I think I've been shut in too long. I haven't got the bread thing worked out yet. I'm not a big bread eater. Normally, flour tortillas do it and they have a long shelf life in the fridge. Today I wanted a burgher for lunch. But, I had no buns. (No smart comments.) I cut the patty in half and ate it like a taco. It wasn't bad. I think I need to get to a fast food restaurant soon, LOL. Last edited by OLChemist; 04-26-2020 at 01:05 PM.. I know how that goes. I drove my car for an hour on Thursday. We're not supposed to drive anywhere but essential work or errands, I had to mail a bill( and keep my car battery charged). I drove to a post office in another town, LOL.
Lockdown Tamale Pie 1 lb lean ground beef; 1 can Rotel; 1 can pinto beans, drained and rinsed; 1 can corn, drained; 2 cup shredded cheddar cheese; 1 med onion, chopped; 2 tsp chopped garlic; 2 tsp Mexican oregano; 1 packet taco seasoning; 1/8-1/4 tsp cayenne pepper; 1/4 c water; 1 package Jiffy cornbread mix; 1 egg; 1/3 c milk; salt and pepper. Brown ground beef, and onion. Drain fat. Add Rotel, taco seasoning, garlic, oregano and water. Cook until liquid is reduced by half. Add corn and pintos and heat through. Adjust salt and pepper and add 1 c of cheese. Mix Jiffy cornbread mix according to instructions. Stir in the rest of the cheese and the cayenne pepper. Place in a greased 9" dia casserole dish. Spread the meat mixture evenly across the bottom. Top with the cornbread mix, leave a couple gaps to vent steam. Bake 350F for 35-45mins or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Place the dish on a cookie sheet, in case it boils over. |
