My friend was able to text again. They have been allowed back to their house. The fire stopped below them.

They were trying to get the ash off their house and plants without wasting water and getting it where it will wash into the lake. She was running a shop vac over her lawn and bagging the ash, LOL. She has a potter friend who wants it for ash glazes.

It's going to be a weird year for the arts. Forest fire glazes. Quarantine jewelry collections. Isolation paintings.

Last census I filled out and thought I was done. 2 weeks later I get another asking all kinds of personal info so I threw it away ! A month later I got another one and a letter saying I HAD to fill it out ! Very intrusive , How much income , how many cars , sq.footage of the house , did I ever work extra for cash and not report it , all kinds of ridiculous questions , so I filled it all out with ridiculous answers !Made $4.50 an hour , worked 90 hours a week ! LOL How I was married , had 7 kids , 8 cars , lived in a 1 bedroom apartment kids were 10 , 9 , 8.5 , 8 , 7 , 7 ,&6 ! LOL Told them we only had 1 bed , It was crazy , but I never heard from them again ! Oh yeah , I used my neighbor name ! LMAO

I'll have some of that chorizo and eggs !Maybe add some fried taters and a big stack of tortillas !

Sally is supposed to drop close to a foot of rain on us by Monday. Most of it to come this weekend. They've been wrong before this far out, so we will see. There's plenty of storms in the Atlantic, so there's still time. LOL! Only 1 name left in the alphabet, then it goes to the Greek alphabet. And people don't believe in climate change.

I'm hungry, too. I'll have some eggs, and think I'll steal some of WD's taters.

Last night I put together a grocery order for delivery. I wanted to schedule a Friday delivery, which I couldn't do until Weds. I went to check out and my order total had changed to just over $100 to over $300!

Something went wrong when they set the week's sales. Everything that was being offered as a buy 10 for $10, 3 for $5, or 4 for $10 had had the prices of the single item changed to the price for the group. I now had cans of $5/ea soup, $10/ea bags of salad, $10 cans of black beans, a $10 box of milk duds and a $10 loaf of bread! I had $180 of products with incorrect prices.

I called the grocery company (one of the largest chains in the US) and was told this was only happening to some customers. They didn't know when it would be fixed. Maybe next week when they set the new sales. No, they couldn't take an order by phone. I could go to the store to shop or buy other products. All very polite and completely unhelpful.

I pay a $10 + 7% delivery fee and a 10% tip. It hasn't bothered me -- until today.

Don't trust the new age promises that everything is better with computers and programs.

Sigh, I feel with you.

We have a "joke" hanging at the all teachers PC's.

which roughly is translated into.

The small errors we do, for the big errors we have computers.

I got a letter to do my income tax declaration 2019 which should I have had to submit until 31. July 2020. The date is prolonged until 31.10.2020. Great, I did my tax declarartion in March 2020 , got he offivcial letter in April 2020 and the tax return was paid at the end of April 2020. Softwrae error because a click had not been set.

I cross fingers that the error will be fixed fast but it is more than annoying.

Discussions of the moneys and the various missions of the project aside, I've always been uncomfortable with the sculpture on several levels. One, like some much in the Black Hills, it offends on principle.

Two, it fails on an esthetic level. I'm all for public art -- even large scale public art. But carving up a mountain? It conflicts with the environment. The tension between the surroundings and the sculpture is decidedly unpleasant. (Ditto Rushmore and Stone Mountain.)

Three, based on everything I've been told about Crazy Horse, I doubt he'd much like the idea. I'm not too pleased with the colonization and metaphorical domestication of his memory this represents. It is a a very dominant culture lens through which to view one of their former adversaries.

It's part of the enterprise of making safely dead Native people part of their "common" history rather than our history. I'm not against members of the dominant culture learning about our various histories. But the cry of "our common history" is the herald of the replacement of Native peoples as gatekeepers and interpreters of their past by members of the dominant culture. It is the passive colonization that occurs when specific cultural norms and perspectives are erroneously believed to be universal and thus reshape history.

Finally, it's part of the whole weird fetishizing of the exotic other. Crazy Horse becomes a distilled essentialist Indian. They can love him for resisting, since it's fashionable and he's not actually around to introduce their tender skulls to the business end of a war club. Plus there is the whole vision with a tragic prophecy, a formula the dominant culture has been tripping on since Phrynichus and Euripides. It makes great box office, but lacks much from a Lakota perspective.

Ches likes this and agrees
The victors usually get to write the history. The black hills are sacred and when the sioux migrated to the area, they found them to be sacred too. I think that the creator may have wanted a mountain there since it is a sacred place. It would have been more appropriate to have “Horse Who is Wild” (Europeanized as ‘Crazy Horse’) to be sitting on a hilltop meditating.

While I appreciate the sentiment, time for a decolonization moment:

The victors also get to write the origin stories. According to our history, the Lakota didn't migrate to the Black Hills. Tokahe led the People out of Wind Cave onto the surface and into the Black Hills.

There are some who say that the mountains in that area are home to certain very powerful spirits. It's more of the building over the holy places to stamp out the indigenous presences. The conquistadors built a cathedral from the stones of the Templo Mayor. In America we seem to build campgrounds and tourist traps on the sacred places of the US

@OLChemist it's funny; the only reason I read the article is because I was listening to one of my favorite songs.

One of my favorite lines in the song is "Creator got my back but Crazy Horse my savior"

That's what I liked about the article. It's rare they convey every perspective. I liked the one that put it plain, that Crazy Horse himself wouldn't approve.

Made a round trip through the country side with Mom including a visit at the place where father is burried.

A sunny day which until 2 pm wasn't warm but a very fine autumn day. Leaves are turning yellow and red and it is nice.

Chuy, I need the medicinal chocolate, please.

My AC broke yesterday. Fourteenth or fifteenth service call on a 22 month old system. The installers botched the installation back 2018. For the first month I that I ran the new heater, they were out twice a week. Same when I started the AC. I had gone almost 14 months without having to call. This is the first call for something that wasn't caused by a mistake the installers made.

It is the first time since June anyone has been in my house. He wore a sort of mask. I wore one of my good N95's and kept it on for over an hour after he left, to let anything settle out. I'm still freaked out. When this is over, I'm going to need a shrink for my new case of germaphobia, LOL.

The neighbor's cat is scratching and crying at the window. His owner is sleeping in and he's feeling peckish. Besides, he gets diet food at home. He vastly prefers eating Jet's breakfast, LOL.

I miss the trees changing. We don't really get a colorful change. One day in late Oct the leaves will be green, the next day a sickly yellow, the third day I'll be raking, LOL.

I need to get ready for my grocery delivery. I can't find my left shoe. My three legged kitten has using it as a portable blind while hunting her toys. She hides behind it and jumps over, kicking it a yard to two. Then she drags the toy back to the shoe and repeats -- ad infinitum. The past week, my shoe has travelled from the mat by the front door to the dining room, kitchen, guest bathroom and laundry room. This morning it must be under the sofa or something....

Our furnace is going on 16 or more years old ! I worry every year that this will be the year it gives up ! Then if it does I have to hope the bank will be generous enough to finance the new system and I know they're not cheap ! LOL 46 degrees F last night and I clicked it on this morning to take the chill off and it came on as it should ! Whew !Now , just 1 more year........fingers crossed !
All I have left are medicinal w&ws ,if you eat them while standing on your head they'll be m&ms ! LOL

They say blood is thicker than water ! Now maple syrup is thicker than blood , so are pancakes more important than family ?

There are "Elders" and there are "Olders". Being the second one doesn't make the first one true !

Somebody is out there somewhere, thinking of you and the impact you made in their life.
It's not me....I think you're an idiot !

There's a chance you might not like me ,

but there's a bigger

chance I won't care
