It keeps my brain agile, trying to figure out how all our measurements equate to the metric system.

I remember that -40F is the same as -40C. And 0C is 32F, and 100C is 212F.

I know a meter is 3.x inches longer than a yard. But kilometers to miles always throws me. I try to remember a KM is smaller than a mile.

From reading can labels, a pound is 454 grams. From reading scales, I know I weigh a lot less in KG.

Another cold miserable rainy day down time to go good bundle up by a warm fire place... ah NO! was a beautiful rainy 55 day today. I'll be going home and turning off the heater and turning on the AC. Them I'm sure I'll sleep on the couch tonighit. Oh well at least it will be cool in the house. lol

Our little cold snap has ended for the week. only down in the low 50's in the mornings and up to the mid to upper 70's as the week heads on. that's one thing about winter down here-it only lasts a few days-usually. The last couple of years it's been really cold for us for a long time. By this time last year, we had had 19 hard freezes, and 35 days when the high wasn't over 45.

That's one nice thing about the winter weather right now. Clear and cold is ok...it's consistant...and I know to start my car a good 20 minutes before I need to go anywhere in the mornings.

Oh dang...spoke too soon... this was copied right from weather central.com:

Clear
Low 15F
WeatherCentral.com Clear. Lows 13 to 17. Lowest wind chill readings 110 below to 120 below zero in the evening.

This is Saturday's forecast..I hope they revise it!

That's kind of far below zero. Wonder if it could be a misprint? Hope so, for your sake and everybody elses too. What's the coldest you remember it ever getting up there?

Same here, it's been hovering around 15f here but another Chinook is blowing in and the temps are on the rise. It sucks for ice fishing though, the ice gets all full of air pockets from the melt/freeze cycles.

Oh Yaahl!! You posted in degrees Farenheit! Some of us Americans will never 'get it'! jks

We used to LOVE the Chinooks in N. Montana. Down here they're looked on as bad luck.

I hope the ice stays good for you! I'm hoping to have some renewed beginners luck when we go out ice fishing. LUVin me some lake trout...it's almost as good as pale salmon!

Ice and fishing are just 2 words I have trouble grasping in the same sentence. LOL! I love fishing-and lake trout sounds delicious. I don't think I've ever had pale salmon-is that different than the bright pink salmon they sell in the stores? Do they have Catawaba trees in your area? They have big heart shaped green leaves, get flowers that have a vanilla scent and look like orchids, then, green worms come out of the roots, go up the tree and eat the leaves. Those catawba worms are outstanding fish bait. Everything freshwater loves them.

I don't miss the cold weather. By that I mean, Fort Drum, NY. In the winter there we had to go out and do our running in the morning. It could be -40 out and still have to run for a couple miles...ugh.

Here is Germany, its not snowing yet...but it is rainy, windy and cold. But it is not like Fort Drum when the winter does arrive.

Hey, I've had to break ice 3" thick in the coves up on Black River in North Carolina to go Redfin trout fishing. Been on the river and at the end of the day have a deer, two racoons and a mess of redfins in the boat!

Me n trouble were talking about catawba worms one time. I had to straighten her out on the PROPER name for the little green wonders. She said she could outfish me with those litte worms. I know she doesn't know how to put them on right! hahaaa

I'm gonna go titty brim fishing when i get back out that way...if my son doesn't push me out the boat again!

I was across the St Lawrence/Lake Ontario from ya. We used to go to Dry Hill to ski and Salmon Run Mall for Sunday shopping...Our base used to play hockey with the guys from the Fort. Those were really good games.

That whole area can turn into a freezer in a matter of days, one minute it's clear and mild the next, it's a blizzard from the lake effect and the temps drop to bone chilling minus 30 something.

I know I could out fish you with catawaba worms-and I know how to put them on right. We didn't have any this year because of the drought-none of the trees had any and we've probably got at least 6 trees around the edge of the yard-and one big one in the middle of the yard.
When we first moved to this house, I had no clue what those big green worms were. All I knew was that they were starting to eat things in my flower beds and I was not happy with that. So, one afternoon,, my husband pulled in from work, and I'm out there with an old margarine container dropping catawaba worms in it. He asked me what I was doing and I told him that since these thing were eating my flowers, I was giving them to the chickens to eat. I thought he was going to have a coronary. That's when he told me what they were and what they were good for. I didn't tell him that I was on the 2nd container full for the chickens. They liked them.
