Yeah.... for JD, I'm going to need a big retainer...

he'd probably be the one client that after saying don't say anything until I get there... ends up with the 45 page statement that I get to read when I get there...lol (that's a true story...I asked my client, "What part of don't say anything didn't you get in 45 pages?")

The whole "liberals are anti-gun rights" and "conservatives are pro-gun rights" is really a false dichotomy. Where I'm from, guns are a non-partisan issue. It doesn't matter if you're Republican or Democrat, no one is gonna give up their guns.

In fact, living in a very conservative part of the country, I know more Republicans who don't like guns than Democrats (but that's b/c Republicans far outnumber democrats in the state).

Oh that would be exactly what I would do and no one would know. Oh I know i would never have anything like that around children, that's another reason I never had one. I had kids all the time here and there was no way anything was going to happen. Here you have to have the gun locked one place and the ammo somewhere else. But before we always had dogs and one was a trip. If anyone came near me he would have gone nuts. When my ex and I would argue he would get between us and if my ex would raise his hands, like one time to point, the dog jumped up on him and pushed him back away from me.
I shudder when I think of those types of laws. Imho, just another way of disarming people. If ya gotta go running around the house to unlock the gun cabinet, then somewhere else to find the ammo - then your gun is worthless for self-defense! - so saith the RedNeck Jew!

My Dad woulda made us eat that possum, too! Dad's rule (re: animals, not home intruders) - you shoot it, you eat it!

Growing up the handguns were locked up. The rifles and shotguns were easy access - either in the closet in Dad's study, or by the sliding glass door in the back of the house.

I actually know a guy that is a Dem and had an arsenal of weapons. You name it he pretty much had it, very pro gun, very pro second amendment, but then after Obama's election and speech on tougher gun laws, he got rid of them all and started hitting the anti-gun soapbox. I'd agree with ya @RDNKJ it is a load of meadow muffins that most folks don't realize that because they are too busy relying on what someone told them and taking that for gospel.

Teaching children from BIRTH, in my humble opinion LOL, gun safety , and rules is without a doubt one of the most valuable bits of knowledge you can impart upon your children.....we learned, from birth it seemed, and my brothers and I all have a healthy respect for weapons of all types, .....they are "tools" to us in essence, and as such, are treated with respect and awareness of what their "job" is......
Trouble, you're a woman after my own heart!!!

Like I said in another thread, my Dad is a [email protected]$$ about gun safety. I remember once my Dad and middle brother were cleaning guns (I was a little young yet to be handling guns much) and my brother took a disassembled air pistol, pointed it at me and pretended to pull the trigger. Not only did my brother receive some harsh physical punishment, even before the whipping started my (13-14 y.o.) brother was in tears Dad was in his face so bad!

Dad taught us not to fear guns, but to respect them for what they are. They are tools, not toys. They are not meant to make up for inadequacies you might feel about the size of your

What about traveling with guns up in Canada?

If I did a lot of cross-country driving, I'd have a gun in the car - in the glove box or console, not in the trunk, that'd just be useless. My Dad and step-Mom drive a lot between Florida, Kansas and Colorado. They never travel without a gun.

Over the years I've known a number of people who've had to pull out their guns while traveling b/c they've been threatened. They may not be common, but brigands do still exist.

Referencing my earlier post about D.A.s not prosecuting, and juries not convicting people who shoot home intruders, look up "Joe Horn Shooting Controversy" on Wikipedia.

++++++++++++++++

Personally, (and I've met very few people who disagree), I would've sent Mr. Horn to prison for life no possibility of parole on murder charges.

Mr. Horn shot and killed two burglars. Except the burglars were breaking into a neighbor's house, NOT Mr. Horn's. Mr. Horn was in absolutely no danger as he was in his own home, and all he had to do was stay inside and let the police handle it. Instead, he shot and killed two people.

The Grand Jury declined to indict him!

And, THAT, I think is just wrong!!!

The only time I've ever felt anixiety ridden fear was when we were in the middle of a high profile case and the entire court had been threatened. I didn't think anything of it as in my day-to-day job I have some idiot threatening me with something. So I go home that night, get ready to take the dogs out and sitting at the end of my driveway was a black sedan... so off I go for a walk. Then I notice the car is following me, and I walk faster and the car follows faster, I start to run (which the dogs now are going... "Are you going to let us pee or what?") and the car speeds up. Then I start sprinting home and the car follows even faster. The dogs by now are really annoyed at me because they all have had to pee on the run, my big boy was now running as if he needed to dry out his underbelly...

I crash into the house with dogs in tow and hubby is "What's the matter?" so I huff and puff out an answer that a big black car has been following me and is parked outside... "go call the police!" I wheeze.

So hubby is on the phone to 911 and I hear him laughing... laughing! I'm about to have heart failure from all this and he is on the phone with 911 - laughing, not a .."yeah my silly wife"... kind of chuckle but the belly jiggling, tear streaming kind of laughter that you get when someone tells you a good joke. Here's my big, tough army dude husband.. is is reaching for the rifles?nope, is he grabbing the baseball bat? nope... he's on the phone with 911 laughing...

Seems the joke was, the car was an umarked police car send around to watch the house because of the threats at court (all the court had a car by their homes). Problem was, they forgot to tell me. So hubby is laughing that he's calling the police about the police in the driveway and the dispatch had radioed the car in my driveway to ask if there was any issues... do you see where this is going? The cop replied the only problem he could see is that I don't walk slow enough to let the dogs pee properly, he told them to tell me to walk slower.

Now see if you guys had had that happen to you, you'd all just bust out the guns and ask questions later..lol
HAHAHA Yaahl, that's funny. Something similar happened to me when i was a kid, but it wasn't the police.LOL

When I was young my mom worked and then she would go out at night with a guy she was dating at the time. So I would just walk around town and hang out. Mind you, I was under 16 years old at the time.LOL

One of the nights I was on the other side of town and it was after dark, like 11pm after dark or even later. I was walking by my self and I heard voices behind me. two guys. So I turned around and it was a couple of friends of mine, so I didn't think much of it. They were in a conversation so I just kept on going. They were behind me the whole time. Again, I didn't think anything of it and didn't stop and wait for them or anything.

A day or two later I saw the one, he and I were really good friends I would say tight but I don't know--but he was extremely protective of me and I found that out later on, and I said something to him about them being out. I said "Dang you guys were out pretty late the other night." He said "Yep" and I said "Were you going to visit someone in that neighborhood?" He said "Nope. We saw you walking and you were on the wrong side of town by yourself so we decided to follow you to make sure you got to where you were going okay." I said "Oh, Okay." Then he chewed me out for being at the wrong place at the wrong time of night. It turns out that there had been trouble on that end of town, I had no clue, so one of them had a pocket knife on him and he had it out and the other one had some kind of wooden thing.LOL They were ready. The one friend after that I noticed was always around, always watching out for me and that was so awesome. I had never had that before so when it happens now and I see it, yeah that person is super special. But at the time they cracked me up 'cause I wasn't worried about it, you know the invincible young years.HAHAHAHA

I'd rather have that then the ones who say "Baby, I got your back". Sure they do until there's trouble then you turn around and they're gone with the wind.HAHAHAHA The quit ones are the ones that I'd be more afraid of.LOL

If you have all the necessary permits and ownership papers AND the weapon you are carrying is not on the prohibited or restricted lists AND you declared the weapon at the border/customs... you're good. If not, you're screwed... now if you use it while you are traveling here and shoot someone or a protected animal you may find yourself a guest of Her Majesty's courts and jails for a little longer than you expected.

I carry a rifle with me when I'm a) traveling where there has been numerous sightings of bears, cougars and other beasties that like to lunch on me and b) when I'm berry picking or fishing where there is bear activity. I'd be nuts and very stupid if I didn't carry a weapon then.

My family always looked at guns as tools almost, like having a hammer, you have a gun for those gun-necessary situations, mostly for hunting. I had a gun as a child. I never felt the need to have one for protection despite living in bad areas. I had the same antique one as when I was a child and when I was attacked, never thought to get it.

Lots of people hide behind them these days--say rude stuff then show off their gun, some become more fearful with them than without them. Some radical people came to a racist rally here and they had guns and the lady wore a t-shirt, something about playing cowboys and indians and had her guns strapped on her and raybans, trying to look tough. I told her I thought her shirt was racist. everyone in the store was freaking out that I dared say something to this lady. We got in a discussion about it and I explained my point of view that it mocked mass genocide and was like joking about the holocaust. She said she didn't mean it thatta way. And that was that. What's she gonna do, shoot me in the dollar general? It would've been awful close range since I was right behind her.

Seems like most attacks on people happen when they don't suspect it and end up being an up close thing, so having that kind of weapon may not be the best. We've got the old louisville sluggers but you have to be farther away even for that. I keep my pocket knife by the bed.

I got a semiautomatic pellet gun, that thing is alright. Got it for feral dogs. We have alot of loose mean dogs here. You might wish you were dead, between that repeated pelleting and the ankle-biters, and my rickety porch and the feral dogs and there's a big fire ant hill there if you don't know it you'll be in it (where I throw scraps), !!!! oh, and rose bushes!!!

No. Seriously. I wanna cut their head off if they come into my domain.

I have a big *** hunting knife in between my mattress n box spring. Once in a while, I'll reach down just to make sure I can feel the handle. Get close enough and I'm cutting ur friggen head off.

I do plan on getting a home security weapon. I want a .357 Mag revolver, but yesterday, I was at a cop's house (He's the one who said he was a cop, ok. LOL) and he was showing me his Glock n S&W .45s. The S&W came up to the shooting position something sweet.

Note: I've always had shotguns and rifles cuz I like to hunt. My kids were always aware of guns. My son bought his first rifle, a .22, with his powwow contest winnings when he was 9.

Anybody else like the smell of burnt gun powder as an aphrodisiac?
