So as many of you know I have a channel on Youtube in which I will occasionally critique (read: B***h) about the depictions of American Indians in the media. Seriously we're always either the ignorant savages, or the stoic warrior, or the mystical, and wise shamans ETC.
Well In an effort to avoid becoming the NDN version of Anita Sarkeesian, I want to commend writers, and entertainers who actually depict NDNs as people and not tropes or archetypes. There are already a couple on the list, but I want to know what you think. Give me some recommendations, please. Tell me what/Who are your favorite depictions of Indians in the media (and please be sure to let me know If I can use your name in the "special thanks" section of the credits.

I might avoid the "revealing" ones, I never saw 48 hours, but it's been an eternity since I've seen "Predator".

Joe Lambert in Die Hard III.
They never once mentioned his ancestry, he was just an L.A. Police Inspector working hard at his craft that happened to be Native. This unlike Smoke Signals which is a ridiculous and romanticized caricature of Native people. ![]() |

i dunno zeke...i LIKED smoke signals in kinda the same way as i liked powwow highway....it was fun and entertaining BUT i agree that its not what we wanna show non-indians about us as it is a bit romantisized....
for the record most "indian" movies are essentially about white people i like OLDER THAN AMERICA and THUNDERHEART....i dont want to pick them apart...i just enjoyed those movies.....please dont ruin them for me everyone....thanks haha but yeah my favorite is all the doomy minor key sinister symphony stuff when they show you red savages crawling on your bellies to with thoughts of rape and scalping on the innocent wagons of decent folk just tryin to scratch out a new beginning and a living while minding their own beeswax......especially love the war cries as come whoopin and hollerin...especially when they win....thier victory dances and screams make the savages look like the missing link.....civilization was a long hard road |

I liked this part of Christmas in the Clouds
![]() And I like this picture from The Only Good Indian because my grandpa Pete had an Indian motorcycle and the same goggles: ![]() My Grandpa Pete and "Mother and Daddy Moore" ![]() I think he had the same suit too. I need to get the picture of him on his motorcycle back then. The Only Good Indian was a good movie but hard to watch. |
