Now Round Rock's population is about 110,000! It used to be a tiny, little redneck town. Now it's a big ol' redneck town.

Going north on IH-35 between Austin and Round Rock - that cemetery on the right used to be a landmark with nothing around it. You knew you were getting "far" out of Austin when you hit that. Not anymore, it's just another thing on the side of the road.

Lawd, I used to have to drive "all the way out" to Simon David by the Arboretum to get Passover supplies. Back then, it was quite the trek. I had a boss who lived off of Spicewood Springs; people thought she was insane for making that long commute into town every day. Going to Hippie Hollow was an excursion.

North, south, east and west, all the little towns around Austin ain't so little anymore.

I know what you mean. When I was in grad school in Houston, Conroe was where you went if you wanted keep your rifle rack full year 'round. Now it is a three Starbucks town.

Beltway 8 was Outer Mongolia and the Woodlands was out back of beyond. Now Houston and Huntsville are going to collide soon.

I used to live in Phoenix, from 73-79. I don't miss it. Hell, I don't miss the desert at all. I spent my time in hell already.

You moved to AZ? Great, now I know someone who might put me up for a 2 week vacation in about 10 years. By then I might have saved up the travel fare.

And since I once kinda lived for a few month in California I know reasons way you should never move there.

Before I went: Several germans told me not to go to L.A. since it's crowded with poor NDN's living and sitting on the board walks.

Since a german store salesman selling world maps and road maps, told me that I can't go to L.A. alone as a woman, since the city is way too big for me to find my way.

And since when I walked Venice Beach, a few very young german females walking past me saying loudly: It's horrible here.

And the good part: Everything there was good for me even me scouting my native american friend who lived there all his life the way back from Santa Barbara somewhere Powwow we went to L.A.

ALWAYS WHEN I hear the name of the City of Las Vegas, the laughs, and (not just me) is a joke on the Kashubia: as it says on the Kashubian burnt forest? I am Kashubian, Kashubian language I know, so the forest is in Polish and Kashubian it is "Las",----- Vegas ----- ---- ---- ---- I mean extinguished, (Kashubian), spalony las (in Polish), Kashubian - - las vegas
This is a joke of course, on the Kashubian

whether it is a good reason to see the city "entertainment"?

You know the weather is bad when you have soldiers from SC training in MS and they say its worse in MS going down as heat casualties.

I visited Window Rock, Arizona where there is reservation. The view and the area was beautiful to me. But that was years ago when I was about 30 years old. I love it there.

Also I had visited Phoenix, Arizona and I did not like the city. I only stayed less than a month. That was long time ago.

I have not been to visit Arizona lately. Maybe I will someday.

I have learned about Texas and I don't like Texas. Everyone is different in their opinion.

I mix electronic music - my reply as the #21 a number keeping me company througout my life. #21 or #12 both - strange. Do you happen to know Cheii? Well, presume there are more than one, he's from Tuba C. and a singer/guitarist in a Navajo Rock Band.

For those who don't know, those love bugs (also come out in May) are called that because they mate while they fly, and when they separate, the male dies. I don't mind them because they are one of the few things down here that flies, and doesn't bite. On the bad side-when they get all smushed on your car, their body acid will eat the paint off.

I've heard of them, but I don't think I've ever seen a lovebug. Well, except for Herbie!

June bugs are what I hate. They're just creepy!

Are there any love bugs in Arizona? I live in the fly zone of german love bugs. They occupy my living room if I keep windows open, they keep their nests in my window frame and come out when the time is right. I do not need any kind of bugs.

More like 'Let's Get It On.' It just so happens that monsoon season is palo verde beetle mating season. The beastly buggers, which are among the largest beetles in North America, live underground for two-to-four years of their lives before emerging to mate when the weather changes. Liberated and looking to score, they fly -- yes, fly -- around looking for partners for about a month before they die.

This is what likes to nest right above my front door...

Yellowjackets!

One time I came home and they were covering the doorknob on my front door! Luckily I had some wasp spray in my car.

Only in TX do we keep wasp spray in the car. Next to the jumper cables and the Fix-A-Flat.

It's spring time in TX. Tonight we had our annual Mayfest severe storm with tornado warning with 70+ mph wind gusts. Mayfest is a large outdoor festival that some brain trust decides to stake out in the Trinty Park in late April/early May, like a tent covered Judas goat.

The Mayfest Storm of 1995

After the storms come the bugs. My neighbors and I just had co-ordinated fire ant poisoning. Five houses on the west side of the street. The buggers just moved. A huge mound erupted out of a crack in the middle of the street. This morning, I heard a bicyclist cursing fluidly after he clipped it.

The wasps are next. I have an old wooden house with huge eaves. I'm running the Hymenoptera Hilton.

All in all, I take the fire ants and wasps up here over the mess they have down Houston way. My cousin is on the coast/swamp in Brazoria Cty. The mosquitos are so big and numerous they have callsigns. It is the only place I have turned off the shower and turned on the OFF. When you're putting on the DEET before the deodorant you know you are in a area not intended for human habitation. (They also have fire ants, wasps, Killer Bees and roaches the size of a Greyhound bus.)
