Artificial Sweeteners...OMG!!

What a nightmare!!

I'm hoping the "natural" sweeteners like stevia and erithritol won't end up being harmful too!!

I stick with sugar in my coffee, and honey for everything else, like tea. I read something a while back (can't find it now), but the basis of it was that if something says it's sugar or fat free-it's full of chemicals, and not good for you.

I agree with this. You are better off with natural sugars like agave, honey, pure maple syrup, and the 'raw' sugar they have found recently is not potentially harmful as compared to the processed white sugar.

My wife studies this stuff for a living.

I agree. But, I don't think even white sugar is that bad for you if used in moderation. I try to avoid all the artificial and HFCS sweeteners.

True...I neglected to mention white sugar only has bad implications for those with autoimmune issues e.g. Lupus, R.A., among others

I still consume it in moderation with no problems.

Remember that diet you started? I'm an undisciplined savage, and I need a deadline...LOL

That way I can check in at the end and confess to the world how many pounds were lost/gained.

Oh yes! I'm going to stretch it out and call it the Gathering of Nations diet....mostly cuz I lost, then gained.

So late April will be the deadline...I forget the date.

I'm looking towards honey and now agave...cuz it tastes so good. As does maple sugar and even good old cane sugar. Anybody remember the C&H pure cane sugar song?

Stevia, although it's natural and carb free, is too bitter for me. erithritol, made from fruit, is all natural, and low carb as well but you can sure tell that it's different .

I have been using organic coconut oil as a moisturizer the last few months,(amazing stuff), and I read something about using it in coffee. Haven't quite worked up the nerve to try that yet. LOL!

Try birch syrup instead of maple, not as in your face sweet as the maple is. (made in the Yukon of course)

Hubby is using agave in his teas these days. He had to come off the heavy refined sugars because of his cancer (they produce insulin and insulin is a growth hormone which can start the tumours growing). Agave is super sweet and you only need a 1/4 of what you would regularly use.

A friend of mine uses xylitol as a sweetener (it's in Trident gum)because reports show that it actually helps fight cancer-keeps the bad stuff from binding to the good stuff. Her doctor is fascinated by that study.
