Cracked Heels

I have suffered from cracked heels and cracks on the ball of my foot for years! It was pretty gross and painful as well. During the winter it gets a little better wearing socks all the time, but spring is almost here and I'm going to wear sandals until it snows again.

I'm just posting this in case there someone out suffering with cracked feet, like I did for YEARS.

A Dr. Scholl's foot file (large emery board style) was what I relied on and it did help a little, along with using the Avon Intensive hand cream. I still have those for daily use, but here's the answer:

Lamisil AT cream for women. It's not cheap, but it's sure worth it. And I just bought 2 for 1 at Walgreen's and it's WONDERFUL. I didn't think I had athlete's foot, and still don't , but whatever is in that cream CURES the cracks. I still use a pea sized amount daily after I shower, then use the Avon hand cream over my whole foot.

My mom got me a Ped Egg which is great to use while you have the bad cracks. It's about the only way to get rid of the excess calluses so the cream can go to work. I still use it about once a week, or whenever I start getting calluses. But don't get carried away! The first time I used it, I overdid it and had sore feet for a day.

Too bad I don't have before and after pictures because it's like night and day.

To get started on the bad cracks: Twice a day use the Ped Egg on the calluses on your feet - no more than 2 minutes. Wash your feet and dry well. Use the Lamisil cream, then some heavy duty moisturizing and waterproof cream - Avon Intensive, vaseline, glycerin hand cream, even Crisco, or whatever you have. Most of the cracked heel creams I've tried are WORTHLESS. Then put on socks - at least for a little while. If you follow this for 2 weeks I GUARANTEE you will see a BIG difference.

My daily maintenance regiment: Take the Dr. Scholl's file to the bottom of my foot for a couple minutes before I shower. Scrub my feet with a foot brush in the shower. After I get out, I apply the Lamisil cream, then the Avon Intensive hand cream over my whole foot.

Good luck to you if you're in the same boat. If not, what are you doing ready all this??!!?? jks

Good job, wyo rose! I've worn steel-toe boots/shoes for most of my work career. I used Desenex powder forever. Now I use Lotrimin AF. We depend on our dogs to get around. We should take good care of them.

I used to have a similar problem not with just my heels, but between my toes too. Oh it was aweful and gross too and itched really bad. Mine was more from wearing socks and shoes 'cause of my feet sweating. I'm a bare foot baby.LOL I had found this Dr. Schole's lotion that worked for a while and then I couldn't find the right stuff again.LOL And none of the other stuff would work for me.

Then a year or so ago I found this really neat Cocoa Butter Cream and it smells awesome too. So I rubbed my feet in one night and the very next morning my feet were not cracked or anything like that and they were soft and silky looking and well kind of sexy in a way.LMAO So I use that. Cocoa butter is good for stretch marks too--well at least to help prevent them--I used it all the time when I was pregnant with my son and I don't have any stretch marks on my tummy at all. So now I use this cream everywere and dang I love it. I think I'm gonna get a few more jars, it's a big jar and I haven't even gone through half of it yet and it only cost me like $5. My elbows were really dry to and now they aren't. So I really like what I've been using.

interesting thread, my brain has some hella images but good question. i never had foot issues *knock on wood* because im a firm believer in high quality shoes and boots. our horses require a similar routine for their hoofs but even then we pay lots of cash for a ferrier to put some nice shoes on them. in the livestock world they make a cream for cows thats wrks good. *on them* cows get tender udders and applying this cream makes their day.

what did old tough warriors used to use? i dont remember crazy horse bloggin about cracked heels lol hmm i wonder?

He used Lotrimin AF and Desenex. I read it in his blog. That's why I use it!

If you suffer from athlete's foot or excessive odor try this:

Soak you feet in water as hot as you can stand using large quart size tea bags. we use 4-6 bags per gallon of water. My son suffers terribly and this seems to help. Something about the tnic acid in the tea drying up the sweat glands.

Well I have my littlest sis in law (an esthetician) give me a pedicure one a month...so nice. My husbands feet are awful! So his sis pedicured him (we called it "fixin his feet" cause he refused a pedicure, to girly) and then put on a lotion, wraped is feet in cling wrap, put his socks on and sent him to bed. In the morning she cleaned em up. I want his feet done monthly now too!

Talking Cracked and bleeding heals

I am diabetic and have had heels bleed. Came across body butter. I just use that and it works wonders. The nurses I work with use it on there clients so as not to get bed sores of any kind keeps the skin smooth. I get mine from The Body SHop.

My mom makes this beeswax hand cream, it is like a miracle cure for dry, cracked skin. It's beeswax from my dad's hives, borax, extra virgin olive oil, mineral oil, and aloe I think. There may be something else in there too I'm not sure I'd have to ask her for the recipe. But it's AMAZING. My fiance works in a garage in the winter and his hands get so dry they crack and bleed. I take Gold Bond hand cream and massage it in real good and get the skin softened then put that beeswax hand cream on and the wax seals in the moisture, then he goes to bed. It helps so much. There's no way I can even stand to have him touch me if he doesn't use it! It's also great to use for chapped lips.
If anyone wants to try to make some (you can do it on the stove top, doesn't take long) let me know, I'll get her recipe. You just got to be able to get some beeswax.

My mother suffered with them for decades and when I turned thirty I got them. Hand cream and closed heel shoes would clear mine up, but hers didn't get better until she got the Lamisil foot cream.

I think I might have to try a different foot cream...probably getting immune to whichever fungicide is in the Lamisil.

Walmart has 3 different kinds of generic athletes foot cream...with different active ingredients. I'll have to look up the Lamisil and find another (name brand) cream with a different ingredient.

Usually after wearing shoes and socks all fall and winter, it will clear up. Guess I'm getting more stubborn as I'm getting older.
