Female Hair Loss

Female hair loss seems to run in my family. When I hit my mid-30's, my hair started to thin as well. Now it's freaking me out!!! I'm serious, it's so embarassing! I've tried shampoos, Shen-Min from GNC, and even women's Rogaine. Nothing has worked so far. Anyone else suffer from this and have any advice?

Thyroid

You ladies might want to consider getting your thyroid function checked as complications with this can lead to female hair loss.

Alopcia Areata

Check out info on this condition as well.

I started to loose some hair in my early 20s. Then it stopped by the time I was in my late 20s it started up again. I was loosing hair by the handful. Especially in the shower. I was tested several times and my thyroid was perfect. One of the symptoms of alopecia areata is if you suddenly find a tiny bald spot someplace on your head, and a few days later, it's mysteriously gone.... then it's probably alopecia.

NEYWAYS.... there is something you can do!!!! go to a dermatologist and they should perscribe you something called betamethasone dipropionate. It's a topical lotion that you need to apply to your scalp 2Xs a day AND you have to shampoo daily with head and shoulders INTENSIVE care (the dk blue bottle) AND you have to take a multi vitamin AND you have to increase the amount of proteins you eat per day to like 40-60 grams of protein per day... IT DOES WORKS....

Hope this was of some help to you.

oops!

I forgot to mention that alopecia areata was commonly linked with women who had seasonal hayfever and severe allergies.

Thanks for the info. I'll look into it...but my hair has never come out in bald spots like that. I probably still should see a dermatologist though.

try the shampoo used on horses? It works. It suppose to promote hair growth and prevent breakage in horses. Many horsetrainers use it on themselves too.

Lots of medications will cause some sort of hair loss. I have tried "Mane and Tail" before. Used it for six months straight with no effect. But it may help if the hair loss is from anything other than heredity.

Burb....got any suggestions for traditional medicine?

Someone once told me to mix powdered cayenne pepper with baby oil and rub it into your scalp. It burns! And you do NOT want to accidentally breath that stuff in!!!

Same Here...

Good to see that I am not the only person who is going through this. I have developed a bald spot along the hairline over my right eye. It is just over the size of a quarter. My hair has been naturally thin but this is freaking me out. Luckily the other sections of my hair easily covers the bald spot.

I went to the doctor and he diagnosed alopecia. Now I have to see a dermatologist in November for cortisone shots to the scalp. I had my blood work done and the thyroid is fine.

I have wondered about the "Horse & Tail" shampoo for thin hair. Maybe I will give a shot. I would like to thicken the rest of my hair...my scalp can be pretty visible. Especially on top.

Please be careful with the cortisone shots...there may be side effects.

I had someone say they used a product called Blue Magic that can be purchased at the beauty supply shops...like Sally's...and that it made her hair grow quickly and thickly. However, she was not losing her hair, but I may still give it a try.

Has anyone taken the cortisone shots? If so, what did you experience?

I've had cortizone shots for other problems in back and leg but not for hair loss.
Ya'll might just need to get your blood pressure checked. I started having hair loss in my mid thirties and it turned out to be caused by high blood pressure. Blood pressure medication stopped the fall out.

another thing to have checked ladies is your hormones and insulin levels. I have a condition called PCOS polycystic ovarian syndrome. one of the symptoms is hair loss. like in the shower and things like that. some of the other symptoms are irregular cycles, excess weight around the middle and also some people e have unwanted hair like on the chin, and stomach area. just a little insight into another problem that causes hair loss.
