osteoarthritis

I've been diagnosed with osteoarthritis.. I'm in pain 85% of the time, sometime severe and other times just enough to aggravate the heck out me. I've tried all kinds of meds from vioxx to muscle relaxers to lortabs.. I was wondering if anyone has this or knows of anyone that does. If so, are there any suggestions on what I can do to relieve this pain other than taking drugs..

ok, here are several things to try-they do work, you just have to give them a chance.

1.heat -bengay,icyhot,etc.-hot showers
2.shoes-good shoes-with good support-supports your feet and legs better which helps support rest of your body better
3. when laying down-if on your back put a pollow under your knees or on your side, between youir knees -relieves stress on the joints
4. Sitting- sit in a chair where you sit straight up

Excellant suggestions, it is worth the $ for good shoes with ones' aching body like this and #3

Ahhhhhhhhhh .... can't wait to get home now :)
plus, exercise your joints ... since i am tall and fluffy - i go to aqua size and after i sit in the sauna for a bit. ahhh ... relief ... alas, arizonia ... pain free ...

Thank you nt.. I'm ok.. trying to live with the pain.. it is horrible, sometimes I can't move or walk..I believe there's more than just the osteoarthritis, I suspect fibromalgia too.. I will be having tests done in the near future.. I really appreciate you thinking about me, that means alot to me.. Thank you!

a :huddle: 'round u for support ... little wolf.
i lived with sevre degenerative osteo arthritis (spelling is off) in my right hip for 23 years ... at 16 i took myself of the pain pills, i was worried one day i would take too many at a time ... trying to dull the pain. so i learned to live with that pain till i was 33 and it couldn't take the pain any more and i could barely walk anymore. so off to my dr. and that was when he and i knew that it was time for a total hip replacement @ the age of 33 ... not something to be done when we are so young, but it was ... now @ 35 ... i walk better now - then "ever" in my life, i even shmile when i catch this fluffly lil' eskimo "running" ... cause after all the pain ... i never knew i'd run or even walk for a long period of time again. the point is ... pain is some thing we understand - in what ever shape in comes in to our lives and well ... i wish to give u support as you adjust to this and i truly hope that you will find comfort ... as best you can ... :Thumbs

Wow thank you nt.. Finally there is someone who can relate to my pain, seems like no one understands. The doctors don't want to give anything for pain these days. They say pain pills are addictive.. Well, I can't take the pain sometimes. You were young when all that took over your life! I feel for you Right now I don't have any health insurance not until next month and then I'm worried that the insurance company will say " pre-exsisting condition". But I will cross that bridge when I get to it... Thanks for being here! :sunny!:

Your welcome little wolf ... i totally understand ... especially, the times where it hurts so bad ... u want to scream. and yes some folks just don't understand, but that is okay ... you can do it ... where there is a will - there is a way ... believe me. someone recently asked my mom, so how is Inuk* (me) doing now - with her new hip - does Inuk* still have pains? ... my mom said she had to think about that for a minute and then replied, "she's doing good and even if she is in pain, we wouldn't know - cause she never showed her internal pains to us" ... i just about started crying, because as i look back over all those years as a young'n ... she's right ... cause no one understood my pain and couldn't believe how much it hurt to live with, so i just kept it to myself. then, towards the end - before hip surgery, i started verbalizing out loud - that it hurt ... this is when my family knew it was bad, because i just never complained ... you can do it little wolf and yes, you will cross that bridge when you get there too. :Thumbs

You know what really upsets me the most? Is the fact that I can't do things that I could do 2 months ago.. It makes me very depressed and very frustrated. I see myself gettng worse and that really bothers me. Alot of times I try to cover up the pain and that is difficult for me cuz I've never been able to handle pain at all. But now, my family seems to understand and if I can't so something they will do it for me..But it still bothers me that I can't do it.. I really want to thank you for being there for me. Thank you thank you thank you!

This week there was report on Vioxx and that it affects the heart causing sharp pains within that area, not too sure of the exact symptoms of the drug but it isnt good. They are advising all patients to stop taking the meds and consult your doctor for another alternative. Thought i would letya know, but im sure that you probably already do, ya just neva know tho.
Take care of yourself and hope the pain will become less as you find an effective way of dealing with it.
