Raw food, tofu and u........anyone????
Okay so I printed off some raw food recipes off the net b/c they looked really really good. I haven't ate tofu though, so what's up with that??? Is it good??? Yucky??
I'm really interested in the raw food diet. Has anyone tried it? I found a lot of soups and shakes and wraps and stuff but I would like to know anyone who may have tried this or is doing it now. Thanks! Tha Princess

....I'm all over the sashimi/sushi thing. I eat it every chance I get.
Tuna, eel, squid, octopus, salmon, salmon roe is my favorite by and far...just some awesome stuff!!!!! The vinegared rice in some types of sushi is pretty neat too....but, that's all cooked n stuff. I've never quite gotten into the whole "tartar" thing with beef and other types of things.....where it's like RAW meat, but, it's supposedly "chemically" cooked in like a brine or something. I ate a raw egg once, on a dare. Didn't have an impact on me, and I had no real desire to do it again. Gimme plain old scrambled eggs any day. What kinda raw stuff are you referring to?

LMAO!!! I'm talking like beans soaked all night instead of cooked. Totally organic vegetables and spices, no cooked veggies at all...gotta cut yer own corn off the cob, blending the veggies all together to make gazpacho soups....things like that.
it really doesn't sound half bad since it's so HOT THIS SUMMER!!!! *L*

I don't know that you can eat tofu raw.
All the stuff I've eaten was cubed after it was boiled, or grilled, or had some kind of cooking method applied to it. It's just basically soy beans, or it a soy derivative. It's pretty good, depending on how you have it prepared and how your fixing it up. It's bland, but, you can change all that with some seasonings, or by mixing it in with other stuff. You can also deep fry it, or batter it and fry it. Or slice it up really thinly and boil it. There's a type of tofu that is really thin, like in sheets, you typically find that used in various types of Japanese soups. Then there's like this fermented tofu stuff that you might want to try. Tofu is an Oriental thing, if I'm not mistaken, or at least, it was invented by them. It's a good meat substitute.....sort of.

aye!!!!! ....OHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. RAW VEGETABLES!!!!!!!!! ......ya got me. It's all edible, raw, cooked, whatever. I did the whole vegetarian thing in college. It was nice, I had alot more energy, felt better, lost alot of weight, ate alot less on account of it, then meat just kinda stunk somehow after that, and it took me a few months to get used to it again. I could go for some Jerusalem Artichoke right about now!!

Actually. ALL Gazpacho is cooked...........THEN left to cool, and is served cold. Least, that's how I remember it being done. I dunno about beans soaked overnight and THEN eaten. Sounds like you'll be reeling and rolling over in pain from the bloating. Raw corn and beans, I do believe, can cause a great deal of bloating and painful gas! So....try it at your own risk. All the other stuff is pretty much a go I guess.

You should try some sushi in the summer months. It's cool, refreshing and just somehow seems to make things "cooler".
It's a bit expensive, but, heck...it's worth it in my book. I know folks that have made like a 'soup'....more like a puree, of watermelon and other stuff and served that....chilled. It was pretty good, but, I certainly didn't get full on any of it. Humus is a pretty neat summer side, good with pita bread, or for dipping veggies in. It's an acquired taste to some folks, but, I like it. Plus, you can mix in other stuff, roasted pepers, or fennel, stuff like that..........course, that requires COOKING. Dang, here I thought you we're talking about RAW FOODS.......I was gonna tell you to go look online or ask powwowbum49 about some 'muktuk'. LOL!!!

yeah a lot of cold soups/gazpachos are good, or at least they sound goot. It's mostly veggies I like. I don't know if I can do the sushi thing. I'm not a fishy person. WHAY!
I heard hummus was good but are the beans cooked? These recipes are beans that aren't cooked...just soaked overnight. Crazy huh. I got a recipe for Toxic Waster (Called that b/c of color) and it calls for soy protein powder and liquid chlorophyll..... Where in the hell would you find chlorophyll?????

My best friend is vegan. She won't eat anything that needs to be cooked (meat and the such .. not veggies or legumes)or frozen. Nor will she eat anything that has been bleached, enriched, has GMO's, isn't organic (even organics can have GMO's), been in contact with meat, dairy, chemical (toothpaste, mouthwash, even soap) anything with refined sugar, canned or unnatural.
One time I went to her crib with a severe case of the munchies .. I was lookin in her cupboard and was like "Damn, girl - ain't you got anything that doesn't have to be soaked overnight and boiled for six hours?? I'm hungry NOW!" But the girl is healthy! She's NEVER sick and has some badass abs .. I am slowly changing my diet .. first thing to go was fast food. |

LMAO. I know!! On this eating regimen you can't cook anything about 105 degrees. Basically using a food dehydrater which I don't have. I do however have the blender and food processor needed to chop, blend, puree, and all that jazz.
Yeah girl that's what I want....abs of steel *L* They even got raw food candy. Anyone heard of the microbiotic diet or something like that. Gwenyth Paltrow does that one...I hear she loves it. It's soooo hard for an indin to give up meat though. I did go vegan once though, and Jangles is right...meat starts smelling awful and stinky. It's crazy. I just want to get really really healthy and keep all the vitamins, proteins and goot stuff in my food instead of cooking them out of it. Tha's all.

I am usually sick once in the summer and once in the winter...but I'm taking green tea pills and drinkin the stuff daily....I've lost like 8 lbs just out of nowhere and I haven't been sick all summer. I'm usually sick in June...and it's JULY!!! Woo hooo.
So I'm backin behind my green tea...they're full of antioxidants and that's a goot thing

OHhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! After Jibby's post it was all made clear to me what yer trynna do.
It's tough, expensive as heck....but, doable. It is quite healthy too. But, remember that as you drop certain food items that you'd normally eat, you'll notice some loss in either body mass or bone density. So, you've got to watch yerself carefully. You'll typically lose an inch or two in height, but, that's just your body making adjustments to your frame, because it no longer has to support as much now. But, bear in mind, that as it does affect bone density, and could lead to some serious health problems if you don't follow a good diet. Go for foods that are rich in iron and phosphorus. Most vegetables are nearly PURE fiber.....or cellulose, and you might as well be eating wood chips. Course, that's not saying that ALL vegetables are bad. The temperature thing is important, especially with things like eggs or poultry, if you plan on keeping either of those in your diet. There various types of vegetarian out there, ovo-lacto, meaning you still eat eggs and dairy, or lacto, or just plain ovo, or just the plain old vegan diet. East Indian cuisine, well, SOME East Indian cuisine is all vegan, but, typically still requires alot of cooking, or in some cases, none......MissGoLightly could probably fill you in on this type of lifestyle.....if she'd haul her mangled mouth back outta wherever and grace us with her magnificence. Jibby!! Did she win the Mangle Mouth thing?

Almond butter is a bit tough to come by, but, ya never know!! Check around Tulsa or somewhere BIG, they should have like a confectionary store or outlet that sells stuff like that....or order it online somewhere. Date paste.......just mashed, masticated, dates. They're a bit funky to some people, but, if you can handle Fig Newtons, you should do okay.

tofu is nasty; I've tried 3 different ways of fixing it, and it's still nasty. When I was a kid, my dad would let me take a bite off the deer liver, he just killed. Ok, it grossed my mom out and I was the only kid that would do it. I've had pickled king salmon up here; it's a traditional food, and not neccesarily raw after being pickled. My hubby and kids like eating Muktuk, it's a thick layer from the whale, I don't care for it. I love sushi; I learned to make it myself, but I don't like eating things that are slimey like octopus, oysters, or squid.

Oh to answer yer hummus question.
Yeah.......the beans ARE cooked...and I don't think you get a readily available, non-processed version of Tahini without making a mess, and stinkin up the house. I remember coming across this 55 gallon barrel of Tahini once....I about crapped myself, I thought I'd hit the mother lode!!! LMAO!!! Chickpeas...mashed up becomes hummus, but, you can make it out of other kinds of beans too. A food dehydrator's a good idea, just like FLASH FREEZING all the vitamins and stuff inside the food, no loss of anything but water. Ever tried solar cooking? ....geez!! ...now it all starts coming out.....dang, I keep this up, it's only a matter of time before folks start thinkin' I lived a new agey lifestyle or I'm some kinda hippie!! GAH!!!!!!! LMAO!

Tofu's good. Just don't eat it plain. The soft kind is good in shakes and smoothies. The firm kind is good marinated, and I've never eaten it without cooking it afters, but I guess you could. Tofutti is the bomb!!:)
