That's exactly what the photog is thinking too.

You know they are just going to go into the office on Monday and show off the picture.

Might as well level the playing field... Besides gas is to damn expensive these days!

How often do you go to Pow wow's?

I tought a Pow Wow was some kind of meeting where tribal members talked about stuff in a teepee and smoking a peacepipe. You don't do that anymore, i know.
So, i wonder why a Pow Wow is all about dancing these days or am i wrong?

The word Powwow is derived from the Narragansett word for a holy man. Some non-Indian people use the word to describe any meeting of Indian people. But that is not how Native people use it.

Many elements in modern powwows come from warrior and men's society practices among various tribes. Other activities, like grand entry, originated within the Wild West shows and rodeos in which some of our ancestors participated.

That depends on the individual. Some folks go as often as their work schedule and finances permit. Others never go at all. Not all Indians dance.

By the way, please don't call the sacred pipe a peace pipe. It's like calling the eucharist an hors d'oeuvre.

Chalako, forgive me if you know this already.

There was and is an enormous range of cultural variation among the Native people of the Americas. In the pre-contact Americas, there was all manner of settlements ranging from small camps of nomadic hunter-gathers to huge cities. Native peoples lived in seaport towns, trading centers, hunting camps, sacred precincts, agricultural research centers, farming villages, administrative centers, and just about anything else you can imagine. Our ancestors built timber framed longhouses, tipis, mud-brick apartment complexes, quarried stone cities, wickiups, hogans, bark walled longhouses, thatched homes, pit houses and dugout earth lodges.

In 1492, Tenochtitlan had a population rivaling the largest European cities of the day. The Inca Empire was larger than any in 15th century Europe. Staple crops — maize (corn), potatoes, sweet potatoes — the Inca people developed, from wild antecedents, came to feed peasants the world over in the ensuing centuries. The mound building cultures of the US mid-west were already legend and the Ancestral Pueblo people had dispersed along the upper Rio Grande, leaving the cities of Chaco canyon to fall into ruin.

The indigenous Americas and Americans were more complex and varied than Europe. Beware of generalizing from the narrow 19th century, tipi-dwelling, buckskin-clad dominant culture images of Native cultures.

I'm not nice. Look at what you wrote. tribal memebers talked about stuff in a teepee??? what makes you think 'tribal members' live in a teepee?

Smoking a 'peace pipe'? Describe a peace pipe.

This is the kind of nonsense talk a non-native says when they read a book. This is the kind of nonsense talk where people think Indians still run around in leather and fringe.

I'm going to my teepee now.
