I am as white as they come. When I was born, my father named me after Chebon Dacon who I believe is of Creek/Uchi descent. I have been involved with the Native American Indian Culture from the time I was in my Mothers womb. When I was 3 years old they had a coming out dance to honor me. My Father became involved with the culture from when he was ion the Kunhieh Society when he was a young lad. After he served in Vietnam he went to the Stroud Oklahoma area, and ended up marrying a Lady from the Sac n Fox tribe, and they had 2 kids together. They divorced a few years later, and when he remarried I was born. My father has always been well respected in the Indian culture, and has been Head Dancer many times, and Head singer many times. I have woken up many times to the smell of deer toes being cooked on the stove, or to the sound of Southern Thunder being played on the tape player. I didn't choose to be brought up this way, but it was what was chosen for me. Am I better for it? Yes, I believe so. I am not racist, and I have learned a lot about the culture that was in place before the white race invaded. I guess my question is why is it so wrong for a white person to be a head dancer? I am not Mexican, however I love to eat Mexican food. That may not make since, but I know many white people who deeply respect the Native American Culture, and know a lot about it. It just upsets me when people make a race issue out of everything. Please explain!!!

Let's take a look at Southern California: We've got the Ahhaitty family (Kiowa/Commanche), the Hale family (Navajo), the Alemany/Crowe family (Dakota), the family of Ben Wolf (Kiowa), the Knifechief/Perkins family (Pawnee), the family of Saginaw Grant (Sac & Fox) that's usually composed of beautiful young women at his side, Roubidoux family (Otoe-Missouria) and more. So if we're white, It'll be a cold day "en el infierno" when our redskin becomes fat stealing wasicu pigskin.

To answer your question as nicely as I can, Let me first point out that many of our tribes were practically wiped out by white people. They called it Manifest Destiny. Truth was it was genocide. The American Indian Holocaust is what I like to call it. Secondly, 100 to 120 years is not that long ago. Native Americans in some states have only had the right to vote for about 50 years. The pain of our not so long ago history is still fresh for many of us. And the things that haven't been stripped from us, we hold in dear regard. Such as our dances, our cultures, our customs. I find it offensive, when someone tries to make light of our traditions, by saying that was so long ago, or I know your pain....No they don't. You say it upsets you when people make it a race issue. Well, I have no sympathy for you. Having been on the end of racism practically everyday of my life, just because of the color of my skin doesn't make me more understanding of your wants. My hope is that people like you who respect our dances and traditions, will at least see why we protect our ways and traditions, and hopefully, honor that.
I mean no ill will,
Numunu

Apple indians are getting out of control because to many people let them lick there butts to the point of no return. We are selves are dilling with these apples and wahginnies (white babies) who go to one pow-wow and become instint experts. Try to tell us who been to them all there lives and before we were even born how much they know. I personelly like to just slapp the pea wads out of some of these instint ndn experts. I 'm half indian half white and have always had to work harder tahn the full bloods but still does not give them the excuse to give our heirtaage away. My greatgrandparents starded the first pow-wow ne oklahoma it is in my family and blood my husband who is 1/2 indian reallly gets mad about this problem but i guess it is every where indian country is. and by the way my sisters hav white skin but all married indians are mother told she didnt care who we married as long as they were ndn so we did their children all darker then they are but our tribe is mixed and you never know who you are talking to but one thing we all respect is heirtage ndn. i could go on and and on

let me restep my words folks i do not approve of white people who have no respect of our heirtage. but i have to remember my grandmother who had no drop of ndn blood in her but respected as one. was not adopted ndn way until she was old and on her last lap in this world and was asked to be princesses for one of our pow-wows who always ask one of the elders in our community to be princesse every year. but before she was the honored princesses she was adopted traditionaly (my greatgrand parents started the first pow-wow in neoklahoma and it is still going on today). she worked hard for her place in our tribal and community she made many of outfitts for people escorted her grandchildren to many a dances as well as her daughters. in our community we have alots of mixed breeds and1/2 breeds not much fulll bloods are problem is people who are from out of state suck up to the eldres of our community and taking atvanage of thier hardshipsand poverty
