Princesses

Why do most princess competitions stipulate that the title holder has to be unmarried? That seems like more of a parallel with Miss America that more traditional ideas of women being leaders or representatives for their people. I'm not sure either way, but I always wondered about that... I've seen powwow queens, and I think their married, but why must there be a distinction? I hope it's not because someone thinks when you're married you shouldn't be worried about anything but your husband, cooking, cleaning, and child rearing...
