Stickgame anyone?

Holy smokes! $100,000 U.S. dollars was offered in a HUGE stickgame tourney this past weekend in Washington state!

For centuries, guessing games called handgames, stickgames, stick gambling, bonegames, moccasin games, Lahal and Peon have been taking place in NdN country. In recent times these and other traditional forms of gambling have been labelled Class I gaming.

Ntown,

Thank you for posting the winners. I like that teams from Montana, Saskatchewan and Idaho came in the pay window! I hope this picks up and becomes the Schemitzun of stickgame next year!

Amigo,

I wonder if the relatives of the southern cali tribes come across to compete with their relatives?

I think this is great that the peon games have gotten to this level! Props for the Barona tribe!

That's a big YES! That is why the Kumeyaay Border Task Force was created.
Members born in Mexico (Los Kumiai) have now been granted documents to cross the border and participate in tribal events, and family matters.

The KBTF did a cultural census of persons in Baja Cailf Mexico and determined 1,800 persons to be Kumiai / Kumeyaay. US Govt then issued border-crossing cards to each new member.

So, I got calls from tribal members right before the Barona gathering, or fiesta as they are called down here, they had cousins coming north at last minute, they needed proper clearance.

Then the next weekend the Santa Ysabel Rez peeps took all divisions of Peon Games at the Rincon Rez Fiesta.

Next will be Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Nation - on August 28th

Viejas Bird Singers Gathering August 28th

I was just checking out youTube to hear some new handgame/stick game songs for a singing demonstation I do.

Tribes from Northwest territory to the southern plains. from the great lakes to southern california all played similar forms of guessing games.

I wonder if at the Tulalip tourney if any teams from California, Oklahoma or the Northwest territories competed? Each of these areas have huge followings of traditional game players!
