A lot of things took place by this state known as Missouri the dislike Indians further more it is home state of former president Andrew Jackson and a lot of native lives have been ruined by it Indian laws as a child of 2 years old I was taken away from my mother cause I was native and that is cause my father died in 1967 and the still doing it today and during my 10 years of captivity 4 attempts to kill my as a child was commuted and my whole childhood stolen from me but that's about to Chang cause I move to Indian territory known as northeast oklahoma

From Wikipedia:

"Andrew Jackson (March 15, 1767 – June 8, 1845) was the seventh President of the United States (1829–1837). Based in frontier Tennessee, Jackson was a politician and army general who defeated the Creek Indians at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend (1814), and the British at the Battle of New Orleans (1815). A polarizing figure who dominated the Second Party System in the 1820s and 1830s, as president he dismantled the Second Bank of the United States and initiated settlement and forced relocation of Native American tribes from the Southeast to west of the Mississippi River. His enthusiastic followers created the modern Democratic Party. The 1830–1850 period later became known as the era of Jacksonian democracy.[1]

Jackson was nicknamed "Old Hickory" because of his toughness and aggressive personality; he fought in duels, some fatal to his opponents.[2] He was a wealthy slaveholder. He fought politically against what he denounced as a closed, undemocratic aristocracy, adding to his appeal to common citizens. He expanded the spoils system during his presidency to strengthen his political base.

Elected president in 1828, Jackson supported a small and limited federal government. He strengthened the power of the presidency, which he saw as spokesman for the entire population, as opposed to Congressmen from a specific small district. He was supportive of states' rights, but during the Nullification Crisis, declared that states do not have the right to nullify federal laws. Strongly against the national bank, he vetoed the renewal of its charter and ensured its collapse. Whigs and moralists denounced his aggressive enforcement of the Indian Removal Act, which resulted in the forced relocation of thousands of Native Americans to Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). Historians acknowledge his protection of popular democracy and individual liberty for United States citizens, but criticize him for his support for slavery and for his role in Indian removal."

NOT from Missouri.

You can not honestly tell me that everything that ever happened to you in your unfortunate childhood , is because you are of native ancestry ! I am Cheyenne. I look Indian. I have lived the majority of my life in Missouri. Now I live in Kansas. NOBODY does anything to me "just" because I'm Indian. You are just another person of dubious lineage , that was turned down by the Cherokee Membership because you cannot prove your lineage, and so you want to blame everything that ever happened to you on the Government.I just find that really hard to believe.

You say you are Cherokee. Who are your people ? Who was the last family you can find that was part of the Cherokee Tribe? Anyone ? Or is is just a story that some ggg grandparent escaped The Trail of Tears ? You should read Josiah Hair's article :http://www.powwows.com/2013/01/cherokee-of-today/ . If that doesn't help I know a great genealogist in the Kansas City area I could put you in touch with.

Moving to 'Indian Territory' may seem to you as a solution but through out history the amount of prejudice against Indians in Oklahoma is more than most states ! Good luck in your quest !

It seems to me that the areas with a higher Native population have greater amounts of prejudice against Natives: Alaska, South Dakota, Montana, and most areas around reservations.

And it doesn't really matter who jumped off the trail or not, does it. Tribes can enroll who they want and they make their own regulations. The Cherokee tribes seems to be SO lenient on who they enroll. I can't think of many other tribes that enroll folks with 1/128 or less tribal blood degrees.

What is this "Store" of which you speak?

I think the subject here is the Cherokee Nation, Eastern Band, not accepting those of unproved Cherokee descent, and being rude about it???

I tried to find out a bit of history at the museum in Cherokee, NC, a few years ago and was brushed off by the fellow there. He kept telling me to go to Tahlequah. No help there. My family all came from North Carolina, so I'm not sure how much good that would do me. On the other hand, I was treated very nicely by the ladies at the library, when I stopped by to do some genealogy research.

I guess it depends upon who you spoke to, and how you spoke to them.

I never grew up in K.C. I grew up in several small towns in Mo. I lost 2 Step-fathers in farm accidents by the time I was 18. I still don't believe your story that all your troubles are because of you being Indian. In 1973 I was a senior in high school. A few years ago I lived in K.C. and at that time I was the Chairman of the Board of the Heart of America Indian Center. I do know just a little about Indians in the State of Missouri.
By the way , there are no Sioux on the Baker Roll.

Many people have suffered various injustices "including non-indians". It is up to each person to work through them and move on in a healthy way as best they can. It sounds like your experience is consuming you and now the discussion boards- you might want to get professional help to sddress them. Hopefully you will make a transition from that of a victim to that of a survivor!

I wish you well, but I honestly don't want to hear about it on every discussion thread - sorry if i am being too straight forward!

Actually...

I always find it fascinating that when people bring up Minimum blood Quantums they always bring up the Cherokee Nation as someone could be 1/100,000 or something like that. Not that I am angery about that it just seems so... By the Way there are 3 Federal Cherokee tribes each requiring different criteria for citizenship EBCI is 1/16th and UKB is 1/4.

Here are the tribes that currently do not require a Minimum Blood Quantum:
Alabama-Quassarte Tribal Town
Cherokee Nation
Chickasaw Nation
Choctaw Nation
Citizen Potawatomi Nation
Delaware Tribe of Indians
Eastern Shawnee Tribe
Mashantucket Pequot Tribe of Connecticut
Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts
Miami Tribe of Oklahoma
Modoc Tribe
Muscogee Creek Nation
Osage Nation
Ottawa Tribe of Oklahoma
Peoria Tribe of Indians
Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma
Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians of Michigan
Seminole Nation
Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma
Shawnee Tribe
Thlopthlocco Tribal Town
Tonkawa Tribe
Wyandotte Nation

cant stay mad

umm @wounded bear, you cnat be mad at everyone and blaming everyone because you had a messed up child hood. and everything you went thru. for an example look what my fam went thru. my great grand mother and auntie were both taken from they families. in NC.(they were cherokee) and taken to MI and placed with white families. when they were infants. as they grew up they were placed in those boarding schools. that train you to be white. but once they became adults they married into pottawotomie. but again my grandmother was taken as a infant. (i dont have any more info on my great auntie)and placed in those boarding schools. but once again she grew up to marry into pottawotomie... and unfortunatly again my mother was taken as a young child and placed in a boarding school. to be taught how to be white. and that being native was wrong. so when we came along even tho we stayed with her and not taken away. it was already drilled in her that being native was wrong. so thats the way we grew up. we were white. when we asked about our brown skin she would say it was because we spent alot of time out side. and it was kissed by the sun. if we did not tak a certain way (proper all white like, preppy) we got beat, or soap in our mouth. our hair was always cut off. we knew nothing of our heritage.our language. until 2003 when she thought shewas going to die. so she finally told us. we knew we were different as we got older because we didnt fit in with the white kids. and we didnt fit in with the black kids. so when she told us it made sense. but now there is no one to get info from. my great grandmother has passed my grandmother has passed. i have limited info on them. no birth records. just name, dates, places. i know who i am now . i have tryed to with the cherokee nation and they turned me down. but am i mad at them? no!! i just have to keep trying. there is a missing link. and i just have to find it. but you cant expect to get anywhere i meant your talking like ggg grands... come on realy... everyone says that.
but i am not learning my/our heritage to teach my kids. wether or not i am accepted by the cherokee nation. i know i am cherokee and i am still proud of it. i am also pottawotomie(i dont know much about them) but i am still proud. TSALAGI ALTVQUODV!!!
