Hello!
1st off, I am sorry for the all misspelling and grama mistakes, I am going to make. English is not my 1st language. I am married to my husband for almost 3 years. His Mother is Native American (Chippewa), but he was raised by his father after their parents split up. He was very young when that happend. His family is spread all over the USA. And for us to get to Minnesota where his Tribe is, is hard. At the present time we live in Central Florida. James (my husband) is in the Army. Both of us are intrested in his Native American heritage. But so far, I have not heard anything from the e-mail I send to the White Eart Reservation, which was send about a year ago. I was so happy when I finally found this webside and I hope I can get answers here and learn. In early 2002, my husband's grandmother was dying and we went to Arizona. After she died his mom and her sister had a cleansin ritual (I belive). This was the first time I experieced a Native American Tradition. My husbands Aunt took him in 2000 to a PowWow in CA, this for the first time he went to a PowWow. We hope to go to a PowWow in Ocala, FL in June. As you can see we have a lot to learn and have a lot of questions. Most of these will be related to the Chippewa Minnesota Tribe. Any help will be appreciated. Hope to talk to some of you really soon. SNOOPY |

the white earth powwow is a nice one to attend... its coming up here shortly. just a warning though...powwows are in the ojibwe blood. its such a big part, almost to the point where not too many havent danced or sang. dont be to surprised if your husband gets consumed, especially after you meet the family up there and get introduced.... good luck..

Welcome
Welcome Snoopy,
My advise (take it for whatever you think it's worth) watch and learn, but be careful about offending anyone at a powwow or tribal gathering. Try to let you husband do his own talking around Natives. I hope your husband isn't in a hurry to catch up with all the years of missing his culture. It takes time to build trust and relationships with natives. And that is the best way to learn...... Best wishes to him. |
