Part Lakota/Haïda living in France ! Hello !

Hey guys !

So, it seems like introducing yourself is the first thing we have to do when arriving on a new forum. Here's my presentation.

English isn't my first language. I was born and raised in France, but got lucky enough to travel a lot (in many different parts of the world), and lived for two years in New York City, hence my knowledge of english. I don't have any family here in France except from my parents. Most of my relatives are living in the USA or Russia (which are my two main origins).

I've always been raised in a very spiritual manner, in a way very similar to the Lakota's beliefs (towards the Great Spirit, Lakota mythology, etc), and always identified a lot with my Lakota heritage. I also have Haida origins, but I'm sadly not really in touch with that part of my culture.

I decided to join this forum to share thoughts, points of views, stories, and mostly to talk to other natives, we're getting pretty rare here in France and it's sometimes frustrating.

Oh and, I'm a 18 years old girl, by the way. I'm currently doing a homeschooled psychology degree, and focusing on my "artsy" side, by doing some concerts (I play guitar/piano/cello and sing/write music), and some acting jobs for french tv.

Hope to find cool people to talk to on here !

hi.....im gonna shock everyone and be nice here

first of all haida and lakota cultures are very different......and so is their spirituality......doesnt resemble eachother at all

and be careful throwing that "mythology" word around.....i hope manners are just lost in translation.....tell the lakota their creation story or white buffalo calf woman is a myth you may be in a fight

so who are your native based family? do the forementioned tribes claim them?

oh.....and welcome!

Thank you everyone for your welcome wishes !

I know these two cutlures are very different, hence why I'm kind of sad I'm not close (at all) to that part of my family. I would have loved to learn more about them.

My "native based family" is from my mom's father (Lakota), and my dad's mother (Haïda). I do know my grandfather was recognized by his tribe, he was a huge example to me, he raised my mom and her sister respecting the Lakota's beliefs, and I'm sad I didn't get more time to learn form him. But I don't know for my grandmother (so, from my father's side), because as I said, sadly, I'm not close at all to them. Family stuffs happened, my dad decided to stop having any relationships with them, and now I don't even know if they're still alive or not.

And I'm so sorry if the word "mythology" offended you, I couldn't find any more "accurate" word to describe what I wanted to say. But thanks for warning, now I know it's not something to use when talking about that.

Anyway, I'm really glad I'm finally able to talk to other natives, and while I'm still trying to understand how this forum works, you seem really nice and thanks for welcoming me!

Welcome! And the nice thing about native grandmas, even if they have a bad relationship with their child, they welcome their grandchildren with open arms! I suggest you try to contact your grandmother!

Well I'm sure she would have, but saddly she passed away in 2006. But thanks to your advice I learned that I still have an uncle and cousins, and I'm going to try to contact them to learn more about that. Kinda nervous but I really want to do it.

follow these steps

1) identify which tribe of lakota you descend from

2) get last names of some of the relatives

3) ask here if anyone knows the last name.....also contact tribal office

4) from there you should be well on your way.....identifying is half the battle
