Hi! Hope everybody's day is going well.
I was born in Colorado, lived all over the US as a baby, parents took me to Canada when I was five. Still up here in beautiful BC. I live in Coast Salish territory, specifically on Squamish Nation land, on the banks of a salmon river right by the Pacific. My ancestry is Chickasaw, and am in the process of getting my Chickasaw Nation citizenship. The rest of my family has it, but long story short, my process has a lot more paperwork. Working through it, and hope to have my card by summer 2019. I go to pow wows here and they are great. Northwest First Nations culture is very different from Southeastern American Indian culture, so it is interesting learning about both. I feel it is important to be an informed and respectful guest on another nation's land. I am learning about my culture and language from far away, so I am very thankful for the internet and places like this. Thank you so much for all the information I have already used in learning to bead. I hope to learn and expand my skills and am very happy to have found you all =)

Hello everyone,
I'm Mark. Originally from Wales (small country next to England) but live in southern California. I'm a cook by day and a postgraduate environmental management student by night, with a focus on Native American decision-making powers within natural and cultural resource management. This is my final year of study in which I am undertaking an independent research project concerning Bears Ears National Monument. Nice to be a part of this online community. |

Welcome to powwows.com.
Cymru am byth! I have a Welsh princess -- ok, minister's daughter from Llanelli -- great, great-grandmother. Sorry, I couldn't resist the joke. Are you working on your masters or PhD? Either way, good luck with your research. I remember my dissertation defense. |

I did start a thread in the 'Native Issues' forum regarding my a survey related to my research which I'm in the process of disseminating in the hope of gathering views and opinions of tribal community members on Native representation in natural resource management, and also those directly affected by the Bears Ears situation. You can view the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2KBX5XQ I'd be very interested to hear all perspectives on the unfolding situation in Utah. There are some good powwows in Alabama, Blind Horse powwow (2x a year) and Guntersville, more in surrounding areas, too. Not as big as the powwows out West but still good.

Where I am from
Hi,
I am from Australia. I was not born here. I was born in South Africa and see myself as South African. On paper I am Australia, in my heart South African. |
