We had a great time at Red Earth even though it was so expensive, both in gas costs and just to get into the powwow. There was good singing and dancing all weekend long. Bricktown was awesome too! Congrats to all the winners!

All in All I thought the Powwow had a good feel to it
Both Northern and Southern were well represented
Starting with the MC's
To the Drums
And finally to the Dancers
I saw damn good dancing
I heard Damn good Singing
Southern Drums were
Thunderhill
Sizzortail
Cozad Singers
Zotigh
Hmm sounds like a kickazzzz Line-up to me and they delivered all weekend long!!! Intertribals, Contest Songs and just damn good southern singing

Northern Drums were
Dokata Hotain
Mesquakie Nation
Standing Horse
High Noon
Although I was not as familiar with these drums by the end of the weekend I was a fan of all four!!!
The Snake dance we had on Saturday highlighted something that makes a Powwow like this soo special!
I had never seen that and although common to the North it was very cool to see down in Southern country!!

AD's kept the flow going very well and I liked the fact that the Contest Judges had chairs down on the floor next to the speaker stand kept them right there!

The facilities and staff at the Cox center were curtious and very helpfull did not hear of any problems like we had last year with the arm bands and stuff so that was fixed

The Veteran's special on Saturday was very poignant. We were lined up by era and War so to see the WW2 vets, The Korea vets, Vietnam vets, Desert Storm, Iraqi and Afgan vets all grouped together was a sight to see
I know I was moved by that and to be a part of it made it special

The contest dancing was Awesome

Some memories I will always have is standing at the drum with the video camera going down the line and hear each group sing there hearts out for intertribals!!
Wow

Wow
I just gotta say to that it was great to see the Veteran's special! It was also when I realized who Josiah was! I have only seen his avatar photo, but when I saw him there, I knew who it was! It was great to see all those who honored our Vets! I was in the stands with 5 little kids, 3 under 7 that have dealt with their daddy being away for 2 tours (the other 2 mine). It was the mom's first time to a Pow Wow (they are now stationed in OK). I know what she has been thought with his deployment, and it really moved her to see how much the Vets meant to everyone there! I just can't say how much it means to see the honor that was there, and what it means to the families of those who served or who have served.
Thank you Josiah for being a part of that!

The response from everybody offering prayers was awesome! Today, there was no leakage and the baby is doing well! I know we've got a long road, before the baby and my daughter are out of danger, but the outpouring of prayers gave us hope and comfort. A special thanks to all of you, from our family to yours!

Hello,
I am Sldodson's daughter. Just to clear things up, it was not my placenta lol it was the amniotic fluid (my water broke). But I was just going to come in and tell everyone that the baby looks good and I have not been "Leaking" for a few days now and that is a good sign. But the docs have said that I could again and it might happen more than once. But we are praying that it doesn't and everything heals itself! We are currently shooting for 24 weeks but the IDEAL time would be at least 34-37 weeks!
I really would really like for everyone to keep us in their thoughts and prayers. And THANK U to all that have. U have no idea how much it means to us! It's VERY nice to know that there are really people out there that care, even about people they don't know!
So from the bottom of my heart THANK U!!

Same thing I saw. If you missed Richard throwing the hoop then it looked really bad on Rooster's part. It happened pretty fast and was a bad deal. I was glad to see them both called out to dance on Sunday. Hope despite what it looked like that there were no hard feelings when they shook hands and walked away.

Great head staff, great host drums, all around a really good time :)

I enjoyed the Endurance contest sponsored by pws.com, but I thought Willow was tapped out too early...girl was workin' it out there after 20 songs....and still dancing hard. It would've come down to her and Isaiah.

After all the controversy that led up to this powwow we didn't know what to expect, but this year definitely surpassed any expectations....GOOD JOB GUYS!

Yeah, Dakota Hotain was killin it at Red Earth....totally awsome! In fact all the drum groups rocked.

ndn,

I remember the grass dance:

1-Rusty Gillette
2-Buck Spottedtail
3-Darryl Bolton
4-Darrell Goodwill
5-AJ Redman

I thought Bobbi Lynn Pratt should have placed in both the endurance and regular shawl contest.

... and a shout out to Mali Cloud. It was her first time down south. Mali is my new friend. She didn't expect to place!

Props to Powwows.com for recognizing Willow (Woggs) in the endurance contest. She was the last female. Poor thing, she had bruises on her legs where the metal inside her legs was hitting.

dang...rooster's a poor-sport..but then again..richard shouldnt have done that..but dang...maybe richard was just tryna play around..and rooster took it the wrong way..either way....they should have both got disqualified..if they were fightin...but i cant believe rooster didnt and richard did..something's wrong there....if anything..they should have just let richard keep competing if rooster got to...geez....

J_,

I have watched male prairie chickens during mating season. In my opinion, Richie imitates these prairie chickens better than any chicken dancer I have ever seen (and I have been to powwows in Blackfoot Country).

But I was talking to a Blood First Nations person this past weekend and was told his style was not true chicken dancing.

Hmmm?

Go figure?

Was Richard told he was disqualified?

I didn't hear he was disqualified. I think he missed the parade which added a lot of points to people's totals.

Richard dances a "realistic" interpretation of the Chicken Dance, we've got guys here in MN and ND that follow that style, while others dance a more "symbolic" interpretation. there is a difference, some guys may even flap their wings, Lee Goodman Jr. comes to mind as well as Richard, while others may only do realistic footwork. Some guys look at themselves in their mirrors and check there hair, others may not.
