Post Columbus Day...keep it or LOSE IT

I got a petition by email the other day which calls for the end of columbus day.
So what do you think?

1. GET RID OF COLUMBUS DAY?
2.keep it?
3.Don't know/don't care
4.GET RID OF columbus day and START A NATIVE AMERICAN/AMERICAN INDIAN DAY?

(a few petitions posted so far there are many more...)
"Seventeen states do not recognize Columbus Day. The state of South Dakota has changed Columbus day to Native American Day." I don't know if this is a fact....but I'm checking it out..................

I think usually banks and schools are closed, but everybody I know goes to work (and I always go to school). I don't think we should celebrate the greed, hatred, and beligerence which Columbus represented. It should not be renamed because there should be a whole new day set aside for Natives, not an old one which represents bad things. Just my $.02.

Yes, this needs to be changed. We need to stand together and have NATIVE AMERICAN DAY or MONTH! My state does celebrate NATIVE AMERICAN DAY instead of COLUMBUS DAY! I know that this is an old post, but it does not need to be forgotten about. Doing small petitions like this, is just a start for those people who feel we need and rightly deserve more recognition then what we've gotten so far. Come on NATIVES!!!!! Come on ANYBODY who feels we deserve this.
